Saw this as well adding shad raps in size 4 and 6(clear response to the flicker shad) along with the other new lures. Have to wondor how many more items they can add. They offer so many models its crazy i thought with last year and all the models they added they would slow down. I bet they eliminate whole lines next year.

nathenha, i some how missed this, but im not suprised.... a couple months ago, i was told by someone 'in the know' that said something big was going to happen to the shad rap. i was figuring that we were going to see cheaper prices in order to compete better with the flicker shad, but i have to say that im very excited to see a size 4 balsa bait. would like to see how they will compare to the old risto rap 4. might make a better replacement then the ul shad did.

WOW I like that that look to have a little wider body on them. Very Risto Rap Like. I know I will be buying a number of the #4 and some #6. I have to think the lead core guys will be going nuts over the #4.
Just cannot get over the number of added lures with so few removed. Trouble is its going to be hard to find a shop that carries all the lures let alone the colors.

funny, 2 years ago I emailed rapala about this problem I was running into. I fish is shallow waters and wanted to use bigger baits. so,.. I ended up using Salmo jointed lures instead of rapala's because the J-13 was just running too deep. Any bigger than J-11 was simply not possible. So I have asked the guys at rapala if they could make a bigger J model with a more shallow running bill. like a DT-Fat 1 style bill. I also mentioned a X-rap styl colour and a bigger body profile without being a shad style body. They said to me that that was not possible and they sent me 3 new maxraps to test instead. before they even showed up in stores. wich was a great experience. Now they are launching the BX swimmer.. exactly the design as I have came up with in my initial email to rapala, could not be more exact. To Mr. Matti Merilainen @ Rapala Customer Service,.. thanks for listening! I will be purchasing this lure when it is available here.

Well Eric its always nice to see that they are listing to fisherman. I think the #4 shad rap is going to be huge over here. I now if looks half as good in the photos its going to put a lot of Walleyes and Crappies in the boat.

They sent some samples plus I will have new info on new models/colors to share - will hopefully have time to post this later on!

I wouldn't say 'on the inside'....maybe living in the dumpster outside of Rapala HQ, looking for scraps is probably more like it. I have a closeup pic of that particular item - its actually a USB stick that has all of Rapala's 2012 Press Materials on it - Anyway I'm not sure how much of what I'll have to say is actually 'breaking news' at this point, but I'll try to post some info and pics tomorrow.

Gotta get me one of them BX swimmers!! By far my favorite new lure - although the new Clackin' Crank CNC610 I love as well... The cool thing about the BX is that you can see the balsa wood core through the lure itself - will have to post pics when I can!

In years past some folks have obtained advanced copies of the Rapala Catalog. We talked about the new lures as well as one that are discontinued or colors that are phased out. Does anyone have the information to start this thread yet. Its easy to find all the new items which is exciting but I am interested in finding what if any colors or lures are discontinued. Nothing worse then finding out the lure you use is no longer made before its too late.
Sidenote I have been seeing minnow raps in the bargin bins all overthe place. General not a good sign.

Well, its kind of hard to tell which ones are discontinued, unless you do some homework. Obviously the catalog focuses on whats new, so sometimes its hard to tell what is noticeably missing or absent. I have a 2013 catalog, and Im hoping to get some info out here soon (life keeps getting in the way)

thanks for posting that ted, finally got a good look at some of the lures i have heard about, however somehow i had missed the shallow jointed shad raps, their kinda odd. looking very forward to getting a sr-4 and some of those crazy tiny little cranks. the clacking crank 6-10 is going to have to get tried also. going to be a good year of lures.
