I was sporting more than that today out on Lake Michigan. King salmon were killing the shallow shad rap 8 clowns behind a dipsy. Hooked up with 5 of those babies in about 50 foot of water. Didn't have the balls to go out a few miles to get into 100+ foot. Bodeen and his damn SSR lures I will email you all the aroma of me smoking them slabs ;D

Another boat I know (actually a Lake Michigan boat) was out about 4 miles and had 15 hookups. Party at my place in September, many species will be making their fall run

I'd love to be there. There is nothing more fun than the Fall salmon run. I've done it a couple times in Wisc. and just thought it was a blast.

Well, you are welcome to come on down. As long as the wind ain't too bad, my boat can go out far enough to hit them in the fall. Last fall we were actually hooking up nice steelheads right off the beach. My boat is set up to run 4 dipsy divers and hopefully by the fall, two downriggers. Add in the sliders, and we could have 8 lures in the water at one time ;D

Speaking of downriggers, who here uses them and what are their preferences? Looking at BPS and Cabelas, I have a liking for the Walkers. I will be going with a manual version. I have even figured out how to mount them on my bass boat lol. Kind of new to this salmon fishing, only been doing it since 2003.
Also, any ideas on a good lure paint? I picked up a bunch of J-plugs used and thought I would try my luck at painting them. Something spray on would be great.
Thanks, Jeff

I've got The Electric Scotty's on my boat . They are by far the best electric downrigger I have ever used . And they are super fast compareed to some of the competition . As for lure paint I use an air brush so I probably wont be much help .

I have no idea on the lure paint but you might want to email Baconsbaits becuase I think he does some painting. I think the key is the laquer layers. Fished my whole life with Cannon's, in fact the same 4 cannon's we started with. Never had a single problem in 20 years really with any of the 4, except the occasional loss of the gear(line and ball) from bouncing bottom for lakers, nothing a little snip snip doesn't alleviate. Always put them away for winter but they stay on the boat rain, sun or shine all summer. When I was on the charter boat on Lake Michigan he was using walkers and they seemed to perform just fine, and they seem to have a little smaller profile than the Cannons so better if you have limited space. We caught most fish that day on the boards so the riggers didn't have to do too much. I should mentioned one of my favorite rigging stories. Took a Military guy fishing without the $$ means he couldn't get out there. He was just itching to fish. He was home from war and we said we'd take him laker fishing. Well wouldn't you know it we are bouncing bottom and the gear hangs up and snaps a steel line before we get her stopped. Some of the extra gear we have at the top of the line is still showing on the surface and I'll be damned if he didn't reach down into that water and grap that 200lb steel line with his bare hands and proclaim "he had it". We told him to let it go we'd never dislodge it and even if we could how would we bring it in. He insisted, so as luck would have it the ball pulled free but now we've got an 8lb ball on 80ft of steel cable and its hooked to nothing but this guys wrist. He pulled all the gear up off the bottom that day with shear determination. Anyone who has ever hand cranked a rigger from the depths knows what kind of work this is even with the help of a mechanized system. Anyways, I've been told he's back in harms way again today(IRAQ), so think good thoughts for that good ole boy. Edited to add: Maybe instead of buying a walker, cannon, or otherwise we need only invest in "A few Good Men"

Air brush would be the best way to go, but I don't want to kick out the money for the compressor just to paint up 15-20 J-plugs.
I didn't like the looks of the Scotty's. I ain't running any more wiring in my boat either LMAO, hence the manual.
Thanks, Jeff

I mean, I would hate to get caught up in all this east coast vs west coast rivalry. Be out on the lake and have some west coaster pop a cap in my ass for using a walker. ;D

First off those are sweet-You have how many MFR blues??? And I have none The blues almost look like 2 different colors but then again the bill on the left hand lure does look "browned" from age. The bad thing is - not enough of these around to compare. Nice score though
