I don't work for them so I wont defend them...then again Rapala itself is a much bigger entity now than just 20 years ago, and now owns VMC, Storm, Williamson, Terminator, Blue Fox, Luhr Jensen, Trigger X, Sufix, etc...
They aren't the same company and the changes in lures obviously reflects that.

and then again. they can't stay behind on other brands that are making very nice lures too. They will have to evolve theyr lures to keep business going. And let's face it, the demand is not the handfull of purified conservative lure fetish guy's like us. seen it happen over and over, people walking in a store, look at what is available. They will grab what looks good and that is not to say they are grabbing for rapala. the first thing you notice is stores today is the variaty of lures of all kinds of brands, some even nicer looking than the other, they all work great. If rapala keep on having only the balsa lures with the kinda dull paintjobs in comparation of other brands they would not sell that well anymore. I think rapala is reacting on the demand and doing a great job on this altough the lures start to loose the original rapala apearance and feel. but hey,.. the original and what not are still available so nothing is lost so far.

i know where your comming from guys but that maxrap is a serious lure in my part of the world for seabass (ie ireland) That's interesting. I have a MaxRap but find it doesn't cast as far as some other similar lures that I have. I especially find that if I cast it into a cross wind it starts to tumble a bit mid-cast and loses quite a bit of distance. Other lures like the Daiwa SP Minnow and the Yo-Zuri/Duel Mag Darter don't suffer from side winds at all. Have you had success with other lures? Nigel

comming saturday I'll be throwing the maxrap for ASP fish in fast running water. I'm curious how it holds up in the stream.

The maxrap did not holdup to the fast running water, could not get a proper swimming action out of it... for the record, I did not use a trace. just a 0.20/100 mono with a very small swivel/clip on the end.

I'm anxious to try out the MXR-17 in Silver that I have to see how far that sucker can cast... Ted, as you know I fish salt water from the shore and we have a distinct lack of deep water opportunities so a bait that casts a long distance is an obvious advantage. So far the ones that I've found to be very good long casters (still trying to catch something on them though......) are the Daiwa SP Minnow, Yo-Zuri Mag Darter and, for my birthday gift to myself , the Daiwa Saltiga Minnow 14 - for only 19g it casts just as far as the SP Minnow which weighs in at 32g! Yes it's nearly $20 but if I can get out to where the fish are then that's half the battle. When you get the MaxRap 17, could you do some test casts on grass or something and let us know how far it will cast

The maxrap hasn't performed very well for me in salt water. I have been up in Minnesota now for the past month and have had decent luck with it in fresh water. Today I was casting it and caught two bass, one of which was approximately 3 lbs.. Really kind of fun on light tackle. I've got the new Quantum Smoke rod and reel and with the maxrap it casts like dream.

I have used the Max a few time, but not been aible to catch something on it. And since I got over 148 Rapala lures in my tacklebox, it's hard to choose But I'll give the Max another chance soon
