After months of sending E-mails, last night my best friend and I went to the house of Jan Eggers to have a look at his enormous collection. One thing he did was sign this new SSR Red - Head lure for me, and for Arnold my friend ( also known as Nollie747 here on this site) he signed a red head RNR 7 lure. Tomorrow I will tell you guys the whole story and show you some pictures of never seen Rapala lures that he showed us. Andre

When you manage to arrange a fishing trip with Jan, please save a spot for me..... I am always looking for an excuse to fly to your fine country.
Thanks for the great pictures.

Awesome. I love the lures Jan has put together for rapala. Some of the Jan Eggers colors are the best available, my personal fav. is the all black J-11 and the Purple Husky. Can't wait to see some of the pictures from his collection.

Here are some more pictures I took during our visit to Jan. He was very kind to us showed us al kind of special lures, 2 prototypes that were never produced, al lott of old Rapala brochures going back to the 50 's, old book signed by the whole Rapala family, special lures Rapala made for his 60th birthday etc etc. I made about 16 pictures of lures. I will show you guys 5 every day. Here is Jan Going through a drawer full of old Rapala brochures. This SSR 14 was hanging on his wall, think it was a gift from one of the Rapala brothers. The 2 lures are very special, they are prototypes never produced by Rapala. This is a SSR 14 in the colour mackerel. Think it was never produced. This is a Special Shad Rap size 9 cm. Tomorrow is will show some more. Andre

Here are some more pictures. Jan used to fish with what he calls a tandem lure. He took an old lure and sawed of the diving lip. Then he attached another lure in front of this lure. So he had one big lure. The problem was that every time he wanted to make a lure like this he had to sacrifice a new lure. So what he did was ask Rapala to make a couple of lures without a diving lip. This is a tandem lure made of a white J-9 and a lip less shallow Shad Rap size 6 cm. This is another lip less Shallow Shad Rap size 6 colour clown. This is a lip less J-7 colour clown. This is a Countdown size 9 cm saying: Spinning Club Italia White J-9 in perfect shape only without the original box. Some more pictures tomorrow. Andre.

Love the super shads! I knew that RH was a super shad, but in my excitement, I thought that the RNR he had in his hand was another SSR. Now the big question. Did you invite him to the board

No not really he is very busy at the moment with a German website. Some Dutch guy asked him to help him setting up this website. At the moment he is 64 years old and he almost fishes every day with groups from all over Europe. He also told us that every month he receives over 40 fishingmagazines from all over the world.

That mackerel looks almost like a chrome version of a croaker. And that hybrid perch is sweet.
Ohhh what a shame....two more SSR14s that I will never own.

Jan has always been in favor of black lures. Why doesn't rapala mass produce a few Black models for us. I guess we have the floating and CD black muddler series and the black jigging rapala's but thats it. Would any body else like to fish a black with chartreuse or black with lime gree tiger look, maybe even a red mouth. I think it would be an awesome combo especially in clear water. My 0.02.

Andre,
Very cool indeed.
What a trip that must have been.
It's not everyday that 'we' get to meet and talk with the people who've made fishing as popular, as it is, all over the globe!
in the course of your trip, I have a question, (stay with me here)
While talking with him, was the subject of the Internet and that there were Rapala collectors all over the world and that Rapala had such a following as a collectable, let alone an awesome fishing ability.
I wonder if he (Jan ) had any thoughts about this?

Guys, here are the last 4 pictures Rapala Husky in a very special colour yellow head blue body with yellow stripes. Size 13 cm. Original colour: Gold, size 11 cm with text: The Original Finnish Minnow I'm not sure about this lure I think it's a husky Jerk size 10 cm. It's made of plastic and has a rattle inside. This one also looks like a Husky Jerk in the size 5,5 cm. It's white and has some fluo orange stripes on the back. It also has a rattle inside. Andre

Steve, During our 2 hour conversation with him we did also talk about collecting these lures, he also knew a couple of guy's who are hardcore collectors. He mentioned a guy from Germany. I had the impression that because he had seen so many strange looking lures in his life that he couldn't get warm or cold about it anymore. He did show us another 6 tackle boxes full of lures inwich there were numerous special Rapala lures. But he said that he didn't have time to sort them, so he just lett them be for the moment. When he is fishing he is not only using Rapala lures, because there are so many other brands available at the moment here in Holland. One of his favorites at the moment was the Salmo Perch in the 10 cm version, with which he is catching a lott of pike at the moment. Although he is not really working for Rapala anymore he is still very interested what is going on at Rapala, and he still has contact with members of the family and some people high up at the marketing department. That Rapala Husky with the Yellow head is very rare. It was distributed for only a short time period with catalogues in the UK. I am fortunate to have one in the collection NIB. Unsure of a color code but would love to see Rapala repeat that pattern with some other colors besides yellow and blue. Black and yellow anyone?

Gents I'm new to the forum (Found you guys on a quiet day at work !!) I'm in the UK and not really a collector like you guys, although from some of your pictures your collections are superb. I really use most of my Rapalas (have around 100 of them, which will be really pitiful comapred to you guys)
The reason I'm posting here is that I've have one of the blue Huskys with the yellow head and bone pattern (don't have the box it came in - suppose I should have kept that ! but I can remember it was marked special and I haven't used the lure ) and the paperback Rapala book it came with. I don't want to start off on a bad footing with you guys and please don't think I'm after starting a "dutch auction" but if one of you Husky collectors wants it and wants to trade it for some of the new minnow raps (haven't them in the UK yet) I'll listen to offers if anyone wants to post a message. When I get home I'll take some pictures and post them on here Monday. As I say if this is against site protocol I'm sorry and I'm not after ripping anyone off but I'm sure one of you guys would appreciate it more than me. Thomo
