you have all seen the auctions, once upon a time they were selling big. so i found some fiber optic rods(like the ones the guy was using in his lures). and i tried it, so far i have only ruined some of my "trial" raps. but drilling though all that balsa, or plastic, and coming out square on the back side is next to impossible, any one else ever try drilling lures eyes out, any tips? i had to $h@t can my newly painted red head/pearl RNR-5, when the eyes were so far off(even though it looked like it should be right on) that the rod wouldnt even go from one hole to the other. I can't help but I hope someone can and you can give us an update if it ever works. It seems to gimmicky for me but I'd try one out if I could get it on the right lure.

Whoa nail polish! What good would that do. Seriously.... I have made fiber optic eyed lures going on 4 years now. I can not speak for other sellers, but my lures are not a scam. They really do work! I fish with them all the time and they produce great results. The fiber optic eyes glow in the water as natural sunlight hits them. This technique better resembles the eyes of a bait fish rather than painted on eyes. The glowing attracts curious fish from greater distances. It also would make sense that they would create more reactionary strikes. Having over 800 satisfied customers and reapeat buyers should should say something........... I think everyone is like 'huh?' when they first see them, I know I was, but if they produce, then that is all that matters. Speaking of which I probably need to try some out - do they work better on lures that are deeper divers, or does it not matter?

The eyes do need some sunlight to glow at their brightest. I wouldn't recommend having them on a DT-16 and using them in muddy water, because visibility will be poor 16 feet down. My favorite bait to use lately is the Jointed Shad Rap JSR-5 or JSR-7. The HJ-12, RNR-7, JSR-5 and XR-10 have been the favorites around the world. If anyone has any questions or are looking for a certain lure / lure color not listed please feel free to contact me. -Ryan bulldog21

I know that many hardbait manufacturers will add color to some of their lips but I have always shied away from them - it doesn't look natural seeing the bait swimming

Hi Nigel, Rapala makes some of their lips red on the "bleeding" series lures. I believe that it does give off the effect of a bleeding wounded minnow. The chartreuse diving lip is what I usually fish with. I don't think you can go wrong with chartreuse anywhere on a lure. It makes the lure stand out and attracts more attention. The custom fiber optic eyes and a colored diving lip could be the small differing factor from other "regular" lures and could cause a strike. ***Bulldog21***

Ryan, have you ever thought about cutting those luminescent fishing beads in half and using them to replace the lure's eyes? They would be great for night fishing and deep water situations.

I am sure I can say that I am getting more hits on the J-11 with bleeding lip then on regular lip. I would like to have a DT2 with the chartreuse lip and fiber optic on day
