Most expensive fishing reel

Hey guys, i was wondering what is the most expensive fishing reel you guys own. MIne has to be a Shimano Symetre 2500 spinning reeel. It was $80, but i'll bet that wont be the most expensive reel i'll ever own

Ambassaduer 6000 for (Salmon) fishing. I own 6 of them. Other than that, I have, for the most part, fished with Mitchell and now I am using some Shimano TX 4000 reels.

If it holds enough line and the drag is smooth, that's all I need.

i have lots of reels, too damn many if you ask my wife. i have some tournement abu lo pros that ran me about $150, and a nice c6500 2 speed that ran me about $100, but when trolling for giant pike, theres no better reel in my mind. also use a few shimano citcas and curados, they run $100-$130ish. there nice, but almost too smooth, if you cast them to hard the back lash, if you cast nice and easy, the lure just sails. i have some spinning reels but nothing fancy, mostly cheaper abus and quantums, no, i dont have any rapala reels, but i have a st.croix(diawa) and a BPS brand(probably diawa) that look basically the same and basically like the rapala reels. the bps is 10 bearing, got it as a combo for $60 at spring fishing classic, it is one of the best spinning reels i have, but the damn thing rusts up so easy, about the first year and it was junk, i cleaned it up the best i could and still use it, but its not as nice now as it was. the casting reel i probably use most---abu eon(x2) one right hand, one left for buzzbaits and spinners. also us a abumatic quite a bit for finessing worms on light line. the eon is a good reel, but the right handed one will some times pinch my finger in the line guide if im not carful. have the same type set up with Browning midas reels, one left, one right. they are a pretty decent round reel. also have a handful of abu 5600 and 6600's one 2 speed of each, and 1 or 2 one speeds of each. dear lord i do have to many reels. i know theres more too, but im trying not to think about them right now, mostly because im not completely sure where they are right now.
either way, i have always been pretty impressed with my BPS reels when i buy them, they are good reels, and are not terribly expensive. but as you can see above, i have a soft spot for Abu reels, cant go wrong. Jeff

for spinfishing I use some Shimano Stella FA (2x10000`er for catfish / 1x5000`er for pike / 1x4000`er for pike + walley), one Daiwa Saltiga Dogfight for catfish and two Shimano Fireblood 1000`er for bass. Yes I know, too much stuff. But fishing is passion.
I tryed a lot ot of other spinning reels in the last years but after all I guess that the Stella-serie is the best for my way to fish.

I have a Shimano Calcutta 201DC which is currently listed on tackle warehouse for $529 and today i bought an Abu Morrum SX 3601 which I think were about $350 new (this one is a used reel from a friend).

well, i'm poor (but please don't tell this to the fishes!!! )

the most expensive reel i bought, 4 or 5 years ago, is "just" a shimano exage 10000. it costed around 85 euros.

many years ago, my dad bought me a 500 size reel. he paid it 80000 lire (that would be 40 euros, if you do plain conversion), but luckily it was half priced.

the best ones i own are 2 alcedo alu spin and an alcedo aluminum pro, all 4000, around 80 euros. well, i received them from the company i do some tests for, so i didn't pay.

i usually use cheaper rods, since i'm testing on the medium - low level products. the last reel i received costs 15 euros. well, it was not the top, but it was worth the money

I, like many here, own too many rods and reels. But it seems when something new and desirable hits the market I can often find a way to justify the purchase to satisfy my angling obsession. I own more than a few reels in the $100 - $200 price range, and plenty under $100 as well, from manufacturers such as Quantum, Daiwa, Shimano, Pinnacle, and even Zebco. But, I would point out that while I will spend good money for a smooth feeling reel with features I think I need, it is the ROD that should always be considered first. It is the rod that is your direct hand contact with what is going on under the water, and without the right sensitivity and action it doesn't matter what reel is holding your line. I always start my rod and reel combos by purchasing the rod first, and then building the combo around it (choosing the right reel and line combination to go along with it). Although I buy quality reels, all of my fishing combos are paired with rods that cost more than them. I have rods that I've paid over $200 for, from manufacturers such as G. Loomis, St. Croix, Quantum, Daiwa, Shimano, Berkley, Rapala, and even Zebco, all with very specific lengths and actions to fit a particular need.

well, i guess this story fits here just nice:

some time ago i ordered a lot with 3 rapala from a german online shop. when the pack arrived it was a little heavy, so i thought they put in a catalog from their shop. when i opened it, there was a box for a Shimano Stella 4000 in it; so i thought these guys pack there rapala well; after all it was some rare CLN supposed to be in there. but when i opened the box, i found a Stella 4000.
this reel is right now selling at around 450 EURO here, which is about $650. i paid for the pack 9.95 euro plus shipping.

i went down to the basement and put the pack in the farthest corner i could find and told my wife if somebody was asking about this reel, she did not know nothing.

after about 8 weeks i took her out fishing and ever since love this reel, it really is something special.

sometimes, collecting rapala is really paying off.

when i went fishing with him, he borrowed me rods with stella reels. and i must say those are great reels. but it's scaring to go fishing with such an expensive reel!!!

My most expensive is a Shimano Cardiff 51SDC ($799 from Japan) I also have a Bassart handle and knobs on it $250. So it's easily a $1000 reel. I have a Stella on my list of future purchases..

Right now the most expensive reel I own is a Shimano Chronarch 100 D series that I bought 2 years ago for 260 dollars. Between my dad and I, we have owned every low profile Shimano baitcast reel they make, including the Calais reels. But just to be honest, for freshwater fishing, the Shimano Curado 200 D and 200 E are the only reels I will ever need. For spinning reels, I use Shimano Stradic's only, my dad's got a Stella and I would like to own one but I know there's no point in spending that kind of money on a spinning reel.

Now, I will spend 4-500 dollars on a G Loomis GLX anyday. I've got 2 GLX's and love them. I always look on E-bay for the old model GLX's that were made in America..... the new ones are not in the same class as the old ones.

i have play around with alot of reels, i have a curado 200 super free, and a couple of citicas, i will save the nearly $200 and buy the citica on sale then to buy another curado. its just as good im my book. i have tried alot of the abu reels, from the 5000, 6000, eons, pro level reels and most recently, have play around with several of the revos. if you are deciding between the sx and the stx, save your money. do you cast alot of shallow spinners or buzzbaits? try a left handed reel, you can usually get them a hell of a lot cheaper, and with a little practice (not much for most) you will figure out that you can sling a buzzbait, brake with your other thumb, and be cranking the bait as soon as it hits the ground without changing hands. i have a couple of lefty reels and use them as much as the righys. once you get used to it, you will find yourself using them in every situation. if you think about it, most of us use our left hands to reel spinning rods, and right to use casting gear, so its not a big deal. save yourself the money. as for the round 5000and 6000 series abus, if your trolling, you can not go wrong. i have a couple of two speed abus and love them for trolling, but casting... use them for trolling. i have used pinnicale, browning, lower end quantums, pflugers, and others, and find them all similar, usable, but no comparison to good top shelf casting reels. i can not say much for quantums, since i have not had a lot of time with them. quantum left a bad taste in my mouth years ago when i bought a lot of quantum rods and had no luck with them, pure junk. i did use a core reel last year, it was ok, but had a couple of issues that kept it from full time testing.
i have cut my rods to only using st criox rods. the new mojo series are really nice, it would be a no brainer if they were made here in wi, but the newer mojo/eyecon series are made in mexico with us parts. but they are first quality, and you can buy 3 of them instead of a loomis. the $250+ level stcroix are awesome too, but bang for your buck for a guy like me, ill fish the mojos and premiers, or factory seconds at half price.
well, i dont only use st croix, i have picked up a couple carrot stix, keep your eyes open, if you see these on sale or better yet, a clearance, get some. even at $150 they are nice, but finding them on sale isnt hard, seems like they are slow movers at places i have seen them, i picked up one for under $60. dont know if the "wild" series stix are as good, they are cheaper, so im guessing they cut fat somewhere. but the pro or gold rods are a buy. i have also picked up a few of those yellow skeet reese rods. for the $90 they were sold for, there ok, not as light as the corrots, but light enough notice. also watch for sales on these and find a bargain on a good mid level rod for a great price if youre looking for an upgrade from entry level to mid/upper level gear.
as much as i love rapala, dont bother with there reels and definatly stay away from there rods. the rapala line(yellow box) actually wasnt too bad. i tried out some of the titanium braid, complete junk. the new suffix line is top notch, and should be for $20 a reel full.
i am not the one to ask about spinning reels, i have not spent more then $50 on a spinning reel. i will be a couple $20 shimano fx or whatever and put them on lower midlevel rods. i can not even tell you why, just do not buy nice spinning outfits. usually pick up a $0 combo at bps when im there, there 10bb and work pretty nice, but corode and break regularly, so i get a new one every once and a while, no biggy. i did pick up a nicer $100+ shimano spinning reel this winter, it will go ice fishing and then on my trout rod. cant even tell you what it was right now. i got a new 7.5ft st croix UL rod for spring trout, so i figured it was time for a good reel. i did get a quantum pt energy to put on the wifes st croix avid pearl. i will have to use it, even it is all purple and girly, and see how i like it.

Right now I guess my most expensive reel would be a Shimano Calcutta te 700. I have 4 of them that I use for near shore ocean fishing. I have numerous calcuttas of various sizes for muskie & walleye fishing. For low profilel baitcasters I have some quantum energys and this year I got the quantum smoke rod and reel. That smoke is so light that I can fish all day and barely notice any fatigue. As far as rods are concerned I use mostly Shimano compre for the calcuttas and I've been pretty happy with the red KVD rods for the energys. As for spinning reels, I have more energys and shimano stradics.
A reel that I'm really excited about that is coming on the market in March is the new Shimano Tranx. I have already pre-ordered it unfortunately at full retail of $499.99. I'm hoping to use is as a cross over reel for both salt and fresh water. It can best be described as a low profile reel on steroids. I'm planning on using it for casting the big blade bucktails for muskie, and also the large waxwing jigs in saltwater. This is a link showing the Tranx in use. Looks like an awesome reel.

Haha, well this has been a learning experience alright! I knew I was cheap but this has really put it into perspective. I think that the most expensive reel I've ever bought personally was between $20-30 as far as I can remember and no more than $35 at most (Quantum snapshot ss 40 F). I have it on a bass pro shop power plus trophy class med heavy 6'6" rod and it works like a charm. Handles big pike without a problem at all and has a REALLY nice smooth drag which helps a lot.
The most expensive reel I own was bought for my for my birthday a number of years back and, as far as I can tell from my research, likely cost around $65 (Daiwa Millionaire-s250 baitcast reel)

a few months ago, i've been to china with my boss and visited many rods and reels factories. it was amazing, but i discovered that most of fishing tackle around the world is made just in a few places there in china. and, also, that most reels are made on "standard" kits, and the difference is only a few colors or drawings on the carters, and labels. and sometimes the same reel, made from the same kit and components, and sold here in europe with 2 or more different brands and names, has different prices, according to the brand.

also, tackle is much cheaper at the production. i think i got shocked when i saw real prices of a few "high line" rods, reels and lures!!!

btw: i had an unique opportunity to "play" with a lot of tackle, from cheap to very expensive, and see huge showrooms... it was great!!!

Megga bass reels are by far the most expensive and biggest rip offs ive seen. And the Japanese made Daiwa and Shimano reels are a bit over priced too!
