The lack of balsa will drive the prices up some, but I think it will be more like the lure types. You better get in on it quick. Once the prices start to sky rocket, everyone and their brother will be selling. This second wave is when you will hit the buyers market. More lures out there than people are willing to overspend on.
I believe it will be more along the lines of this or that lure isn't made anymore and that will be what drives the market. When they quit the shad rap and shallow shad raps and move purely to x rap shads and xrap shallow shads, you will see those prices move up.
SFR will still command some good prices and the lack of balsa has no effect on them. Minnow Raps are made of balsa, are they going to phase out minnow raps already and come out with something else like Husky vs husky jerks, or are they going to just start making the minnow raps out of plastic?
If it is anglers going after the balsa lures, how high will they drive those prices? Collectors will drive the prices more. Most of us that are going to collect minnow raps, probably have them already. New collectors who will go, "What!!! you fish with a minnow rap balsa???" Are you nuts. Like we do with some rare huskys.
Look back this summer, the hot clown and to a lesser degree, SB size 9 skitterpop went through the roof for about 3 weeks. Then the market filled up and now they are under 10 I believe. I think I sold mine for 25 each and I sold 8 of them. I paid 4 for them on clearance.
Also cleaned up on the GFR and GSR that were going semi nuts this year. I think every batch I sold went to Singapore. 2.50 each in a Gander Mountain dump bin and I bought like 250 of em. It is quite fickle. I see some no box SSR lures going over 20 and last summer I couldn't get 10 for a NIB.
You will just have to keep your finger on the pulse of the market and try to buy low and sell high.
