you said what it looked like, i will keep an eye out for a similar one, its just i have always been interested in catching pike off the surface, and i only have 2 surface lures, and neither of them have ever caught me anything. All my surface caught pike have been either with spinners bulging the water, or shallow diving floating crankbaits reeled in dead slow along the top. Should be getting a skitterpop soon, and after that a skitterprop, so i should be able to catch my first fish on a true surface lure Got my first bite on a true topwater lure at the weekend. It was on a fox micro topstick (now discontinued) in bloody roach colour. It is a walk the dog style surface lure. I saw the fish come up and take it, either a chub or a pike, at first i thought it looked like a pike, but later on i began seeing loads of small chub, so who knows. Either way it was about 5 or 6 pounds, and my dad saw it too. Would probably have caught it, but it took it real close in, and i didn't strike, as being a surface lure, if i had missed the fish, it would have shot out the water, and i had a busy road behind me. The next day i spotted a tiny little pike in the margins on a lake i had never fished before, after bringing the same lure over its head, it came up and nudged it with its nose, and just sat there looking at it, before slowly backing away. I turned around to change lure, and when i turned back it was gone

i havent used a walk-the-dog lure but i read articles on them, I just looked at the lure on ebay, for some reason I wouldn't have picked this lure, the colour seems cold and doesnt look delicious, i would have picked a bright colour, since the pike sees them a a black blob, but as he/she get closer, he/she see the colours better like a orange or firetiger (which are aggressive colours) but if his close, i would move it but just barely. you have to make it alive but delicous at the sametime or make the pike pissed off on take it

You have to remember that pike eat fish. Although fire tiger is a proven pike catcher, along with orange, if you stick to something that looks like what they eat, you won't go too far wrong. I mean how many fish look like a firetiger lure? lol I was twitching it, but i didn't want to move the lure away from him, he certainly wasn't feeding, so i didn't want to rip the lure away from him, because i knew he wasn't gonna take it. Otherwise, i would have kept it moving, he probably saw the hooks or my trace or something???

I've seen ppl catch pike on a coke can looking lure and a liquorice stick with 2 trebles on it, that didnt bother them much aslong as its moving they'll go for it. pike always feed, that was an easy meal, but if i would chose topwater colours i would have went for a frog coloured lure, black lure and a bright/flourescent coloured lure, i wouldnt need anything else. the pike was probarly in a 'should i or shouldn't I' mood

Try the Heddon super spook, for walking the dog method for Pike.
I have found it to be very effective for Bass.
