Since I got my new Abu Garcia baitcasting combo I wanted to find out which lures would cast well with it. The rod is designed for lures from 14g-40g (1/2-1 3/8 oz). I took a selection of lures to a grassy area and marked off a straight line of 40m putting small flags from 20m to the end every 5m. I then, using a snap clip, gave each lure a few casts and logged the results. There was no wind, the Revo Inshore was loaded with 30lb PowerPro Braid and the mechanical brake was loosened right off except for the CRR-3 and the DTTSS (both were causing backlashes). The results were actually quite surprising! So here are the results of my testing: Lure | Weight | Distance Cast | CRR-3 | 10g | 25.0m | DTTSS | 12g | 21.5m | FXR-12 | 22g | 41.0m | GFR-5 | 11g | 31.5m | HJ-14 | 18g | 25.6m | LC-12 | 19g | 42.5m | MXR-13 | 15g | 38.7m | RNR-8 | 22g | 37.0m | RNR-7 | 16g | 35.0m | SP-9 | 14g | 34.0m | SSW-11 | 19g | 35.0m | XR-10 | 13g | 32.0m | XRS-8 | 14g | 31.0m |
As you can see the winner is not the MaxRap13 but the LongCast Minnow (LC-12) with a great distance of 42.5m! (it will be interesting to see how far the soon_to_be_released MaxRap 15, which weighs in at 21g, will cast). The other thing to notice is that weight is not such a major factor - the LC-12 is on 19g, 1g heavier than the HJ-14 but casts an incredible 17m further! The GFR is a meager 11g but casts an outstanding 31.5m Have a ponder over the above results and hopefully it will help you choose a lure that will get you out to where the fish are.

Amazing results, I can imagine how much work and effort was put in getting the results just alone. Your results will indeed help alot and sure helped me.
