I've been experimenting with casting distances using my newish Abu Garcia combo - a Revo Inshore coupled with a Vendetta VTC73-6 Medium Heavy rod. At first I was quite impressed with the distances of several of my lures - especially the LC12. A couple of weeks ago I bought some non-Rapala lures and wanted to see how they compared to the 42.5m of the LC12. Terrible, and so was the LC12! What happened? Did I measure wrong the first time? So I got out the spinning outfit and double checked against previous distances using the MaxRap 13. No I didn't measure wrong. The Abu Garcia combo was just not casting like it used to. I took out the spool and oiled the small bearings, gave it a general clean-up and - wow! Back to the long casts again Just goes to prove that a little maintenance really does help
