Does anyone here use a fish scent on their lures? If so what is the recipe that works best for you? One I'm going to try soon has a Vaseline base with garlic and anise oil in it.

where are you from? if you are from here in Europe, i guess you will already know all about deadbaiting and all the oils and attractors people inject into their baits to make them more appealing. Today i bought some mackerel oil & blood, designed for enhancing deadbaits, but i might try dunking some of my lures in it next time i go fishing. I will let you know how it works.

I'm in the US and haven't really been in the fishing world. haha. I love fishing and just really got into it this year. I've been four times this year but haven't caught anything so I'm trying different techniques out now to help get me a catch. I'm working on making some lures myself and I'm gonna try scenting them and maybe that will help.

It helps if there are actually some fish in the water I been fishing quite a lot the last couple of months and haven't caught anything either but I still go in the hope..... and of course just being there on the rocks with the sound of the waves, the smell of the sea and the solitude -- makes it all worth it

That is very true! that is why I love fishing. There is something about being in nature and just hearing what it has to say. I want to try ocean fishing this summer. I love the ocean! It's my favorite place. : )

On my plastic worms, I put pure anise oil (not anise oil extract) into a plastic bag with them. I usually catch fish.....but it may be a superstition.

Yes kind of like a marinade, but it only takes a few drops per worm. It is strong stuff.

my favorite scent is Pike, the first pike i catch of the day, i rub the lure and my hands on it good, makes for a good stink. if i have other rods at the ready with other lures, they will get a rub down too, seems like it makes a good cover scent, because it is so smelly, but its as natural as anything you can buy, and i have always felt like i get more bits after doing this then before. just me bacon

Good to know BullDog. I'll keep that in mind. I'm thinking I might try grinding up some whole anise stars and then mix that into a Vaseline mixture and rub that on.

That's a good idea bacon. I've been reading that we have alot of chemicals on our hands as humans which is why sometimes fish don't take to a lure or whatever you throw in the water. I like the idea of just rubbing fish on everything. haha. I'll try that too. : ) Thanks!

ok cool! good to hear that about the garlic. I love garlic so I dont think it would get to me that much. The blood and stuff might but there's only one way to find out. ; ) I think i'll try out the anise garlic mixture first and if that doesnt work i'll go for a more fishy smell. : )

I guess I have 15 bottles of the Crawdad, Minnow and Garlic scents put out by Eagle Claw, was called Gravy. Sold most anywhere here in the states. I always use it on my lures, doesn't hurt and just might help. I use the garlic mostly.
