Okay, so I bought into the hype too because I fish primarily for bass, and follow the the pro tournament news. And, I own more than one bait in what every lure company seems to think is the color pattern that anglers must have. I'm referring to the Strike King "Sexy Shad" color. Also seen in other brands as "Foxy Shad", "Spicy Shad", and even Rapala's "Helsinki Shad". I've fished with these colored lures a little bit, without much success. My question is, other than pro bass angler Kevin VanDam, is anyone out there just slaying them on this color pattern? It is never my first choice of baits when I open my tackle box.

I read where Larry Dahlberg (Hunt for big fish) said he hasn't saw a color that Bass wouldn't hit. He said match the size forage that they are eating and have the correct presentaition to it and catch bass.

Personally I don't get the allure either, no pun intended. Haven't used it enough myself, since anything Silver or Grey usually comes out first...

He said match the size forage that they are eating and have the correct presentaition to it and catch bass. Thats exactly what i have been basing my whole argument on about the importance of colour. One day i tried to think of a colour that has not been classed as an effective lure colour. Try it, i guarantee you will not find a colour that the fish won't eat. Of course, some colours are more productive than others on certain days, but colour choice is nowhere near as important as some people think, i think most of the time the lure companies just tell you its important to make you buy more lures...
