Hi Guys, First post to the board!
I've started out my rapala collection with an F-7 in Spotted Dog pattern, and along the way seem to have opened a can of worms!
I bought the lure at a Rapala Lure night, knowing at it is a desirable colour here in Australia and was a limited run, sometime later that week looked at ebay and for the sake of it searched for the lure, and I'm blown away by what i found, lure is going for at least double its shelf price.
Anyway thats a bit of a sideways step from where I wanted to go with this post.
I know the Spotted Dog is sought after here, and has a real reputation, thus the limited Australian release, but has it ever been a lure used over in the States, or even the UK?

As of the latest release in Australia. I have never seen this color on any lure. Its typical for new special release colors to start out very high in price. Ive been patiently waiting for these to come down. But indeed its taken quite some time. It reminds me of another Australian release. Which was the CD 5. It was Pink lure with black tiger stripes. Havent seen any of them around lately. Jason

Thanks Jason, I'd imagine thats going to be a hard one (getting them cheap), like most things in Australia we get ripped pretty hard on lures, Small rapala's (F-7's CD-5's) cost around AU$17 from most large retailers, my mouth waters at US prices.
Anyway if you want I can help you out with the Spotted Dogs, just PM me, last time I looked locally I could get CD-5's, F-7's and F-9's. I'm new here so I understand if you are wary about that, no offense will be taken.
The other one, I've never seen, do you have a colour code for it?

The one thing that makes me skeptical about using the spotted dog for fishing is that it has too many "eyeballs". We did that with jigging spoons once and the fish quit hitting them as well as they had been. Cool color though - and of course - I couldn't wait and had to buy one at insane pricing!

Thats certainly an interesting concept that I hadn't thought of, but does make sense, I can certainly understand why people love them so much at spawning time, but nowdays they tend to be fished all year around. I find it strange that they are selling for so much, I listed one a couple of days ago on ebay for $1 more than I bought it for that day (from a store), and its gone $8 higher and we haven't hit the snipe period yet - factor in postage costs and it doesn't make sense, but I shouldn't complain about that . The only explanation I can offer is that the lures are out of stock in traditional trout areas - whereas I live ~3hours away from trout waters, so the demand isn't nearly as high.
