Hello. I received this lure recently. It's color is a little different than normal f-5 silvers. The black goes below the eyes. The lip only says "Japan". Has anyone seen this before? -Ryan   |

yeah, these are early knockoffs. once rapala got popular, the fakes showed up right away. companies in finland, sweden, and even japan started making them, there was even a lawsuit by rapala because one of the swedish companies was using rapalas name or logo or something, i forget the whole story, but there has been fakes nearly as long as the real thing. Palsa made a pretty good fake too, not stealing the name, but hinting at Balsa, rapalas main ingredient. but you dont see many of these japan knockoffs, not a bad find, i have pick up a few of the knockoffs over the years, they tell the rapala story as well.

Thanks for responding. Yeah it looks just like a rapala. Rapala has the best lures...who wouldnt want to try and copy them?  |

I know this is an older thread, but I was looking through my tackle box this morning and I found one of these in a larger size with three hooks (the only marking is the japan on the lip) and it is in pretty good condition. How rare are these and does anyone have a guess on value?
