Gents, Been kicking around ideas on what I should 'name' this place...I know I should just keep it simple, stupid, but I just can't help myself, lol... Rapala Nation sounds good. Are you worried about copyright infringement. I'm not sure it would hold water in court if Rapala came back for their namesake URL. Just my 0.02 Maybe checking with them first would be good.

Yeah I wasnt actually going to buy/pay for the URL or anything. Although I wish I knew how to get in touch with someone over there as far as getting permission to use certain images, etc.
Just an idea I was kicking around...

I think if you checked with them, and they seen the fever we all had, they would be awed to have their name wanted like that. Or, their lawyers would say their name might get soiled if someone bashed Rapala on the board, or someone thought it was an official site for rapala and other fine print crap.

Im actually surprised that they don't have a forum on their website of their own. I mean its just a board name Im considering..I haven't even thought about purchasing a domain name or anything...yet. To my knowlegde, there is no law that says you cant register any domain name you want. Although if it was a similar domain name I would imagine it would be helpful to put a 'disclaimer' on the site saying 'This site is not affiliated with Rapala or Rapala.com, etc...' Just kinda thinkin out loud here... |

I like the idea of forming a Rapala Collector's Club (RCC), we could have officers and the sort and maybe, just maybe, we could actually have like an annual meeting. I've thrown this idea around a few times and I think most liked it. Anyways maybe the board could be a reflection of that club or the official gathering place. Any input?

Well I fired off a couple of emails to Rapala...one to the editors at clubrapala.com, and the other one using the Rapala site support/feedback form. Curious to see if they get back to me...

Wallcat. When I first read your RCC idea, it didn't sit right. Today I was going to work and your idea took off in my head. First off, perhaps make the RCC a non profit thing. Anual meeting, why not an anual Rapala Collectors Club Lure Show? Not a big draw for just one lure maker. Open it to all kinds. WE have a gun show at the fair grounds about once every 3 months. Dealers get charged 25 bucks a table. With the RCC being non profit, any NET could go towards maintaining the RCC web site. Basically, paying for the domain name and some space. This could also bring collectors together and we could be looking at finding some Rapalas we didn't think we could, or without the pressure of 10,000 bidders on ebay. There are a few of us in Wisc, Mich, Ind area. Good spots. NJ good spot. PA good spots for fishing. Ohio Erie...has a few fish. It could do a few things for us. We have our meeting. We have a web site. We might get some recognition from Rapala for being a little nuts. Might get some more lures  I know the show would draw the people. Just thought I would throw out my ramblings LOL |

Your thoughts are along the exact lines I was thinking. It would take some work to get the bird off the ground, but in the end I think it would make collecting more enjoyable and bring the community together to the benefit of all.

I've been kicking around the idea of getting a domain name for ahile now, since its so much cheaper than it used to be. I have some ideas in my head as well. Just not enought time and money, lol. I would have never thought getting this board going would have this kind of impact, lol. We could use more members here and trading partners though. Sometimes when I have time when I see ebay people bidding on the same stuff IM looking at, there are your other Rapala fanatics. Ive emailed some, and gotten a couple of you here, lol. But some havent come by, but thats ok, to each his own. But we got a great core group so far . And recognition (& free lures, lol) from Rapala would kick major ass! But so far my two emails Ive sent have gone unawsered. Maybe I'll have to do what the guy in Shawshank Redemption did, and keep emailing until I get a response...lol. |
