Yesterday was probably one of the best days out fishing i've ever had. Within about an hour i had caught 3 pike, the first one about 4lb, the second about 2lb and the third about 10-12lb. Considering that i didn't have any luck after the first hour, you might think that it wasn't a great days fishing, but you'd be wrong. The two small fish were caught on a spinner i managed to snag up from a river, and the big pike was caught on the trusty storm wildeye 6inch roach. However, what the pike really wanted was my rapala F18FT, first cast of the day was with my F18, 1 cast= 1 follow. 2nd cast with the F18, another follow, from a big fish. 3rd cast with the F18, and a 3rd follow! And no, the fish weren't just following my lure, in the first hour i must have had about 20 follows on my F18FT, and about 10 takes, a couple resulting in hooked fish which later threw the hooks. 1 pike that grabbed my lure must have been less than twice as long as my lure itself, it took my lure in the margins, and was hooked on the middle treble, which it then threw seconds later.
I also got a take on my CD11SB, which answers a question i had been starting to ask myself, whether pike really do take countdowns. Strange though that even with the fish feeding that well, i couldn't get the slightest bit of interest from the pike on my clackin' raps, so i'm afraid they remain to be some of the only rapalas i have never had a take on. As with the F18FT, its quickly becoming a favourite of mine
