YAYYYYYYYYY!!! I DID IT AT LAST!!! Finally caught a fish today on a clackin' rap after almost 2 years of trying! I caught him on a CNR08S, and he was a small pike of about 3-4lb cleanly hooked in the mouth! I did exactly what it said on the video, and 1st try, BAMM!!! fish on! I cast it out to an island, let it sink to the bottom, and then cranked it straight back in with a medium-fast retrieve. When i felt the lure hit a snag about 10-15 feet out, i jerked the lure, and the pike slammed into my lure just after the jerk, as it sank, exactly like the bass do in the rapala video. I can only guess that the reason i never did any good on them was that i have always jigged or slowly retrieved the lure, instead of buzzing it in like i did today. To be fair though, the only places i've ever really used it extensively have been crap as far as fishing goes. Later on in the day i also had a follow on a CNR08RCW, and something really neat happened that i have never seen before. As i took my lure out the water, the head of a tiny pike appeared underneath the lure and tried to snap at the lure as it dangled just above the water in mid-air. What was strange was that it made no splash or disturbance, it just slid his head out the water, closed his jaws and then slid back down again. happy days

Congrats on your clackin rap victory!! I have two or 3 models that I know should work, but haven't worked for me yet. It sure feels good when it all finally comes together right. I had a skitter prop for about ten years without even getting a bite. Then last summer I got a new one in limefrog. I caught a bass with it my first time out. After that I grabbed a few more(s, ft, f) and have been successful with all of them, even my ten plus year old prop in sb. It has a lot to do with confidence I guess. Once you know what works you can make it work again!!

lol, thanks. Hopefully i will go on to catch a lot more fish on them, i think i might have cracked it. I always thought the clackin' rap looked good, very robust, great finish, and it casts a mile. It also has a very strong action, its not like things like CDMAGs, which stop wiggling as soon as they foul up on anything. The CNR carries on wiggling even with great big sticks and clumps of weed on it. To be honest, i never felt very confident with lipless crankbaits, which is stupid really as they work exactly the same as a standard crankbait; water resists against both sides of the line attachment, causing the lure to wiggle. I suppose its just like you said, its just confidence..

I have never really had any success on lipless cranks either. Thought I was the only one!! I think I might have to try the CNR 06 this year on the bass around here. I'll let you know how it turns out!

its good to see others are failing on lipless cranks. i bought a few of those CNR's. really like the feel of them and they dont feel chinsy like other lipless cranks i bought. so i have a few and still try to catch fish with them.
just like your self, it will pay off one day.....it better for the price of them!! ha ha

Just wondering, has anyone ever done any good for pike with the rattlin' rapala? I've never fished one, and a couple of bass anglers i've seen on youtube say they don't think the clackin' rap is as good as the rattlin'. Just wondering if the same applies to pike. If the rattler is good for pike i might try and pick up a couple in silver blue or firetiger to try out. I wish they made a giant one like an RNR12, i'm sure pike would hammer it.

Congrads Tom!
I never caught anything but weeds on the clackin rap, this is because the waters I fish in are to shallow.. so I gave the clackin rap away.

thanks, and if you had 'burned' it just under the surface, you would have probably done quite well with it. I found out that the clackin' rap needs to be retrieved quickly to work best, so really cranking it in would have ensured the lure stayed shallow, and you might have caught a pike or two. Its early days for me yet, so i don't know if the clackin' rap is a good lure for pike, or if the other day was a one off. I will keep you guys informed as to how i do on it.

Went fishing again today and caught another fish on a clackin' rap, this time on my other one, the rusty crawdad colour. I only had 2 takes all day, so the pike took the clackin' rap when they were ignoring almost everything else. I think i must have cracked it, i'm starting to do quite well with them now.
