Well I finally manged to catch something
I must say that it's been a long time but I still enjoyed getting out and going fishing even though I wasn't catching anything.
I took a day off work and got up real early to get there whilst it was still dark. The sea was realively calm with just the odd wave about a meter high. I waded out about thirty meters with the water up to my knees and kept my eye out for the few rogue waves that would come very so often. I did get a little bit wet - my hands only (I had a nice waterproof jacket over my waders) but the North Easterly wind soon got my [wet] fingers cold, and so after an hour (it was getting quite light already) I moved over to the reefs:
I started out using a MaxRap 13 but was afraid of the shallow reefs so I switched to a Xorus Patchinko 100 (top water walk the dog - with a cupped face) and after about 3/4 of an hour I saw a fishes' back and a big swirl just behind the lure. I thought that I had missed it and continued with a few twitches and then another large swirl behind the lure. I paused and then a few more twitches and a couple of turns on the reel and then -- bang! and a screaming clutch - fish on!
I tightened the clutch a bit after the first run and started to gently pull the fish in and then it took off again. After the 4th run it was getting tired and I was able to get it over the reefs that I was standing on and then got my fingers safely under its gill plate:
I then got onto the shore behind the reefs for another photo:
It was a great looking bass (sea bass) and weighed in at 2.58kg.
The rod is a Major Craft Solpara - 10-30grams lure weight with a Shimano Aernos XT C3000 loaded with PowerPro Super8Slick 20lb yellow and the lure is an Xorus Patchinko 100 in Silver back(?). It is an expensive lure but I can cast it about 47 meters which is not bad at all considering that it weighs only 11grams. It also has a great action -- a splashing, popping walk_the_dog action.
