Hey guys. I have a Shimano IX R1000 spinning reel that is annoying me beyond comprehension. It was my brother's but he never used it much and so he just recently gave it to me, which was awesome. But I soon found out that the anti-reverse would fail very frequently but still work on occation. I dont imagine it is still on warranty as it has been several years since it was bought but according to my brother it has never worked properly. I have taken it apart as far as I know how several times and have had it "fixed" several times so that it worked in my hands only to have it glitch out again as soon as I put it back together Does anyone know how to take these reels completely apart and/or fix this problem completely?

I'm not familiar with the reel but on the UK shimano site you can access reel schematics, I'm guessing you can do the same on the US site.

For what it is worth "uni", the best thing I ever did when it comes to reels - is to find a good "reel repair guy".
I have two if you want to borrow one! LOL

Hello uni..., At the risk of offending you (hope not), that is a very inexpensive reel and you might find that you end up putting more money into repairs than you would purchasing a brand new reel. Unless there is sentimental value to the reel, I would save the time, money, and aggravation in favor of a new reel.

Thanks for the advice, roeroeyerboat, happyshad, and omigosh and no offence taken at all. I know that for a more expensive reel I may certainly look into having it repaired professionally but like Omigosh said, it is an inexpensive reel and so as far as i'm concerned if I can fix it myself without too much of an issue then great. I like the challenge and enjoy learning exactly how my gear works. Right now I am just stuck in how to get the rotor assembly off the body and then I can find out what isnt right from there. I think that the problem is just that the anti-reverse cam isnt set where it needs to be.
