hi guys my salmon and seatrout season starts next month, and i collect a lot of rapala models yet used only a few, instead of using my trusted countdown's and team esko's , maybe i should try the small xraps or maybe a Dt, my rivers are only about 4ft deep in summer and pools double that , any idea's what may do the job nothing larger than 9cm

well, im looking forward to trying the new ultra light crank here. today was actually the first day of early trout season here, i was all cranked up to go out, but i think i separated a rib yesterday, normally that wouldnt have stopped me, but we also got a bit of a winter/ice storm yesterday also, and my balance is a little off because im favoring my left side, and i dont want to start the season off with a swimming lesson. maybe tomorrow i will give it a try, RR-4's will be the first lure out, but right after that will be the ultralight crank and then the jointed deep HJ's, and then back to the CD-3's. also have a couple of small storm lures that released last year that i need to try too.

ULM-6!!! As long as you don't have to fish it slow, that thing works!!! It also casts a good deal further than other smaller rapalas!!

Hi Mark.
i think you should ask Thomas from Denmark, he is catching really big salmon on JSR i think, but he switched to some other i dont remember right now last year. anyway, he posted some nice pics of very big fish some time ago. and a search for one of his favorite lures too. but as i said, i am too old to remember all that. what i do remember is that the CDJ-7 SSH is a very good lure for really big brown trout in rivers here in germany - and the brown and the sea trout are not that different - actually, it is the same this just living on different worlds.
best, wolfgang

maybe try out some of the new rapalas out for 2012
what are you laws about leaders if any.
for us the wieght can not be no closer then 18 inches from the bait...
if the waters are very clear my best rapala is the holo-cd-7 in hsh useing green line and a size bb wieght about 18 inches from the rapala.
if the waters are brown and or not clear i like to use anything that makes noise and colorfull.
thanks john
p.s. i will post some photos of my set-ups when i get home.

I haven't managed to bag a salmon yet but after no success last year using f7s cd7s etc, my tactic is going to be to downsize. If you haven't already done so I would check out ULM04, ULS04 and MXR05. Outside of the rapala range I've got Salmo Teno (designed for sea trout), Executors in shallow runner and super deep runner and Minnow in super deep runner. All of them would suit the depth and water conditions you mention.

They are in the 2012 catalog on the RapalaWorld site. Don't know if they are available here or just another overseas only release, but they definitely exist!!

huh, i looked at rapala.com, and nothing. but the catalog on rapalaworld has them. im guessing i will be having to beg a friend or two for a couple of them, maybe next year we will get them, however i think i said that same thing 6 years ago about the team eskos.
