I hate ice-fishing and around my place it is all too much of a reality for much of the year. So I was very excited today when I made a gamble and packed up some gear and headed out for a 45min drive with the hope that the ice would be off. I was overjoyed when we got there and the ice was gone. It was cold and below freezing all day today but the breeze kept the ice from re-forming despite the layer of snow on the ground. The fish were cold, hugging bottom, and not really chasing aggresivly but I soon started catching them by slowly twitching and pausing an olive x-rap. I got five pike in just a few hours (6pm-8:30pm) as opposed to only getting two fish the entire ice-fishing season. none of them were too big but it was still nice to see I could still catch them. I didn't bother taking pictures of them all because it was a lot of trouble to wrestle my phone out of my holster and every time I did my fingers just got colder.

So I was going to go take a couple of buddies fishing for some trout and maybe some pike today but a big snow storm rolled in last night, and being that they are new at this I dont think they will want to go out in this. Almost a foot of snow in one night!

So the guys didn't want to go today so I went alone. It was very cold and miserable and I didn't catch a thing. I hate trout I had never fished there before but I managed to learn a lot about the place and how to fish there better and so I feel confident for the next time. I also managed to find a panther martin spinner in great condition so it wasn't a terrible trip after all.
