This image is from Rapala.com, and the color shows up on the main Lures page, but then isn't available if you go to select a color to order. I have seen images of Fat Rap 5's in the most recent Firetiger color advertised on various sites (rapala.com, cabelas, etc.), but never actually seen one or a picture of one in any of the collectors albums I have seen, and don't remember seeing any on eBay. Can anyone verify they actually made the FR05 in this particular Firetiger color? Thanks! Derek

hi my name is john i think we had another topic about diff. gens. of firetiger somewhere but anyway i think this one is the new gen. of firetiger with gray eyes not yellow eyes so i think one is gen. number 4
so what i mean is
firetiger gen's
1.firetiger gen. 1 with yellow eyes and no bleeding gills but this one the black lines are very diff. from this one.
2.firetiger gen. 2 with yellow eyes and bleeding gills and the black lines are very diff. also.
3.firetiger gen. 3 with yellow eyes and no bleeding gills and the black lines are very diff. also
4. firetiger den. 4 with gray eyes and the black lines are very duff. also.
but i have to say BACON ( JEFF ) is very right rapala has many painters and each rapala is not painted the same way each time.
he and jason are very good at things like this and very nice guys too.
i will try post photos of each one sometime this week if i can.hope this helps
john
p.s. nice to meet you

Thanks for the reply, John.
Yep...this would be the 4th generation Firetiger color/pattern. I think the only Fat Rap I have actually seen in this 4th generation is the the Mini Fat Rap MFR-03. However, it is available on most of the other Rapala models currently available.
There are basically two versions the Firetiger color available on the current Rapala lures. The DT models have the squigly black lines that cover most of the side, and all the other models seem to have what is pictured in my original post (the single, straighter lines).

I haven't seen any FR05 in Generation 3 - most in the stores are Gen 2 (Bleeding Gills).
Not trying to be argumentative, but as far as Gen 3 and Gen 4 go - I have the opinion that there are Gen 3 with Yellow Eyes and Gen 3 with Gray Eyes. If we started "generations" on every little variance - there would be over 10 "Generations" of FT to date.
Maybe Rapala had a lot of stock of the FR05 in Gen 2 and will come out with the Gen 3 ones when the older ones clear the pipeline.

im going to have to agree with happyshad on this one, the generations of any color kinda shift with major changes to the apperence of the pattern, slight alterations dont really qualify as a new generation. little changes like gill size or color, or eye type dont necessarily alter the pattern enough. however on the subject of the fat rap color, it wouldnt be the first time that rapala had multiple generations of colors on different lures in the line up. im pretty sure when the FT2 color showed up some of the lures were FT2 and some were still FT1 for a year or so. i have to believe that rapala does have 'stock pile" issues sometimes at it does take a while to purge the supply. in the case of the fat rap, heres a lure that can not seem to make up its mind to be discontinued or not. so new colors might take a little longer to appear.
so, here is a little question that popped up to me while thinking this over. when did the fire tiger color appear, who coined the term or the basic colors as far as a lure. when you think of other newer colors that have kinda taken over, 'sexy shad' comes to mind was a hit with the strike king line up and has shown up everywhere. i wonder who it was that put green over chart over orange and added stripes and called it firetiger. almost every manufacture makes a fire tiger, and most stick to the standard fire tiger name. but who was first?

Yep, I understand what you guys are saying about the "generations" thing, but I think we can all agree there are at least three obviously different Fat Rap Firetiger color patterns, and I'm guessing for whatever reason, the last version of FT wasn't actually available in the FR-5.
Kinda interesting, the Cabela's website has an FR-5 in what they call "Firetiger Crystl" that is "backorderable".
bacon, that's an interesting question about the origination of the Firetiger color. I have an older Big O in what I would call Firetiger, and Bagley's have some older Firetiger models, and those are probably from the 1970s. My dad has several antique lure books, so I'll have to look through them and see what I find.
Somewhere I have a pretty accurate list of when the various Fat Rap models and colors were available, so I am going to check that, too.
