I went out fishing around 8 this evening after work and had a great day shore fishing catching 6 pike and 2 walleye. All but one of the fish (one of the walleye) were taken with my favorite Rapala x-rap while the other walleye was taken on a home salted minnow. The walleye were about 19 inches each and only two of the pike were really little. I also managed to catch my new personal largest pike measuring 27 lbs and 47 inches beating my previous best by 9 lbs and 8 inches! Here's a pic

That is a great fish - anytime Northerns get over 40" - then they become PIKE! That fish was so big - it bit your head off in the picture! Nice catch!

Haha yeah and it could have! If you have ever icefished pike in shallow clear water you know that pike can expand their head to at least twice the size of their body. Makes you shudder to think what all this thing could swallow!

Ain't a soggy shoelace. Lol. I caught it off of a beach. Does that have something to do with it??? It also has food because I caught a small perch their earlier.

haha I've caught pike at 25" that outweight your 36" fish by two pounds! Do you have any pictures of it?

I suppose it could be due to genetics, food availbility, but most likely local climate. I dont think pike gain weight the same if it is too warm. Maybe dissolved oxygen levels have an effect?

No don't have any pics. :'-(. It was pretty warm out so that is a possibility. But all of the other fish were "larger" in width... I think. The perch might of even been fatter....
