I just got word if its true that the flw will not be doing walleye tournaments nor will they publish the walleye magazine . I will be honest I dont follow tournaments but I think they are important to raise awarness of wallleye fishing through out the country and also for lure and fishing style development. With out a health tournament scene I just dont see how walleye fishing can continue to develop and grow. I have to believe the most of the new items we have scene on the walleye market came as a result of tournaments and the pros who fish them. Its a sad day for Walleye fishing. I can count one one hand the number of guys I know under 40 who walleye fish. A dying breed I guess.

I don't see the problem. Is this not a good thing? as beeing a walleye fisherman the first thing I'd like to have is less people fishing for the same fish so there is more to catch.
I mean, here in holland the fishing is so crowded that fish are becomming conditioned to fishing. A positive thing would be that there would be a bit less people fishing a spot.

In certain parts of the US, we don't have the problem of overcrowding on a lot of our waters, especially if an angler is willing to drive a little. More anglers also means more tax dollars, license fees, etc going towards habitat improvement and stocking programs. Invariably this means more fishable waters, more fish and more fishermen. More Anglers means more fishing opportunities as well - because we can unite and keep our natural resources open to the public, not just the rich or the antis! We got a little off topic, but bringing it back on track - the new Walleye Circuit that will offer the Walleye Anglers even better opportunities is the Cabela's National Walleye Tour - here is a link: www.nationalwalleyetour.com/Walleye Tournament Anglers will still have the Master's Walleye Circuit and the AIM events - as well as numerous regional and state events!

Its good to know that there will something to take its place. Happy Shad is right its about awarness and raising money to support stocking and other projects and that only happens when something is popular. Look at bass fishing and what tournaments did for it. I also hope that we can continue to have Walleye magazine.
