Hi Alex and John.
i was thinking exactly the same, but i didnt want to call the box a fake.
i fully agree with Alex (who knows a lot about these brown boxes for jointeds), the SB is too young to come in a brown box. these boxes are so old they are unglued and it would be easy to put anything in there.
i was keeping back, cause it could well be John put this in there himself; this is an extremely rare J13 and it is nice to have it in a box; theres nothing wrong with that, i do this myself with rare ones that came without box. in my files these are labeled NOB which stands for: not original box. as long as you dont sell one of these as NIB, everythings fine.
unfortunately, i am afraid the J13 came like this; and then we have a problem.
first, we all know that rapala in box bring more money than without (although some of us have seen the other way round happen on ebay). second, it is not a good idea to match lure and box of such obviously different age. if the seller did this, i guess he didnt know much about rapala.
this J13 is so rare, it wouldnt matter much too me if i had one with or without box, i would just fit nicely in my J13 as well as in the SB collection.
best, wolfgang
