I was recently at a local supermarket (Meijers) that has a decent Rapala selection. Well, I got lucky with the fact that I was able to find some Rapalas at over 70% off. I of course took advantage of the opportunity. Now looking back at what I bought, apart from a few of the original and some X-Raps, I now own a few Jointed J9 and J11 especially in Silver and Blue. While I have had some positive experience with silver, I have never owned a blue Rapala before.
I wanted to find out what success have people had with these lures? What about Jointed in general?
One additional thing I noticed is that when I came back to this store, they are now selling these lures at a new higher price. The only difference I obseved is that the background inside the box is now white instead of black. I wonder if it was time to clearance off"older" inventory.
Thanks

Where I fish here in northcentral Pennsylvania (I fish streams and small rivers), I have found that the blue color does best in cold water conditions (early spring or early winter).
As for the jointed Rapalas, it is best to fish them alternately with the original floaters in the same color to see what the fish prefer. I have ran into situations where the ONLY thing the fish would hit were the jointed ones!!! Why this is, I have no idea!
I have had no luck whatsoever with X-Raps! I keep trying them on a regular basis, but always wind up with the same non-descript results!
Aside from the Shad Raps, my biggest producers are the jointed and original floaters, with the Flat Raps quickly catching up!

I have had good luck with X-raps, you just have to learn the jerkbait technique with them. If you just reel them in normally then they don't seem that effective

I've not tried the blue in jointed, but have had very good results in small streams with J5 and J7 in RT and TR for perch and chub here in the UK. Also had pike from a small lake on J 7 FT and RT. So far had only one nice chub on a Silver X rap in 10cm in the dark very early morning - used a lot but never had anything else hit one
