Hi all. about 2 weeks ago I got my first fish on a max rap - and a nice one. the water was quite clear, so the next day I tried a different color (I have only 2: MXR15 FHC and FAYU). I did not get any fish on the FAYU, and I think the reason is, this one was floating, while the one used the day before was sinking or slowly sinking, almost suspending (on the same set up of line and leader and snap). so my question is, has anybody else noticed this on the max rap (or any of the newer made rapala)? the much cited "tank-tested" seems not to work that good anymore, I guess. or how could you explain such a different behaviour on the same model and size? btw, caught 3 more (smaller) pike on this day - all took the MXR-15 FHC on a spin stop - do not have that much experience with this kind of technique, because I am more of the old-fashioned crankin-type fisherman. this seems to work pretty well in cold water (if you are lucky to find a slow sinking max rap ... ) needless to say, I guess I will buy some more MXR, maybe even some size 17. best, W.

Hi Wolfgang.
Nice pike ! I think what they are saying is the lure will run true or straight. Have always tested husky jerks. they sometimes float tail up or bill up. I use lead tape, large strip and trim to the lure hangs the way you want it to. The max rap is a suspending lure, it should not float. have not had one do that yet. Maybe it is worth big bucks. lol It is a great bait. only thing I do not like is the price. Have fished size 13,15,17. caught pike, bass, walleye, rainbows, browns Glad to see a spinning rod in your hands !
Jim.

Hi Jim, and all.
well, if I lived in Colorado, I guess I would buy less fly fishing tackle, and use the one I have much more instead.
although I have bought more than a dozen new fly rods (and about 50, mostly used, fly reels) in the last 6 months or so, before I went on this spree, I was and still am primarily a spin fisherman. it would make no sense to collect RAPALA if I was one of those crazy fly fisherman I have heard are out there somewhere. before this crazy phase, I had here about one dozen fly rods and at least two dozen spinning rods. it seems I am close to getting even, but if I let go any of the rods, it sure will be more fly then spinning rods. just not enough good fly water around here to really go into any fly-fishing-only ambitions.
I will take some side-by-side pictures of these 2 MXR15 and post here. the max rap is built as a suspender - damn, I should not have opened the box of this FAYU - a floater should be worth quite a bit to collectors of them plastic rapala ...
best, W.

were the 2 lures produced in the same factory (country)?
maybe there are different batches, some with lighter plastic than others.
