Just curious if anyone knows the rules... I never used to even think about when to go out but someone got me all nervous about fishing before opening day at the end of April.
I always thought that was just for trout fishing rivers and streams & that you could fish year round so long as your fishing catch and release.
Either way... I think I am planning on taking advantage of this nice day today... hopefully I don't get in any trouble!

Their site confused me more... it says lakes and ponds are open year round unless otherwise noted... but then they make such a big deal out of opening day... why would opening day even matter as most fishing is done in lakes and ponds around here anyways...

That's trout fishing purists for you I guess. If the waters are stocked in the fall & spring then I could see why, not fair to have anyone get a headstart on all those trout. For me, opening day is more symbolic more than anything. I used to always go, but not for trout. I can't see standing shoulder-to-shoulder with tons of fishermen each fishing a tiny peice of water, to me that's not fishing, that's insanity.
