hard to type with all the drool on the keyboard. very, VERY, cool. somewhere i have one of the silver/SFC jointed lures in the box. those prototype prop jobs are very neat. i kinda like the idea of a wide profile on the top of the water, really looks like big shad or panfish twitching on the surface.
in the last picture, what does that top gold one say, i have seen a few of these, but never with a good enough picture to know what it says, and not enough to make be really bid them up to win them without knowing.
also, Jan, why the pike 'feret'. we dont have ferets here in the usa, except some people have them as pets, so i dont know why you would have the nickname as the pike feret.
how i would love to see your lures jan, in one of my talks with Ray Ostrom, he told me of some of the lures he had been given by lauri and that he had a bunch of them on display in his boat on Lake of the Woods(aka The Lord Rapala)(but renamed after his wife when he owned it)
said he had a lure, about 12 inches long that Lauri handmade and added 'scales' buy using a nail to lightly dent both sides, very time consuming, very much a special piece, he also said 12 were made. makes me wonder what happened to them all.
i really wish i knew what happed to his phone number, some how i lost it. im not even sure if he is still with us. he was very hard of hearing, and spoke of poor health, but what a great guy.

Jeff I think it says "Rapala Wobblers since 1936" I believe.
And my guess on 'the pike ferret' is that Jan is such an expert at pike fishing that he "ferrets them out"....
I think... ?

Hello guys,
You asked for some information and here it comes. Andre was right with my nickname The Pike Ferret and because I was ferreting out data of big pike over 40 lb for Fred Bullers book "Pike and the Pike Angler" which is dedicated to Richard Walker, Hugh Falkus and a certain Jan Eggers, he thought it was a good name. I never give up trying to find the data and stories of real big pike and at the moment I have a list of 1100 pikes over 40 lb On the picture you see me and Fred Buller, who is 82 years young now, working on the book about the biggest Atlantic salmon that was published last year and we still have regular contact and I visit Fred every now and then.
The text on the golden Original in the picture says on one side: Rapala Wobblers since 1936 and on the other side: The Original Finnish Minnow.
The glitter on the blackish SSR is caused by the fact that these SSR wobblers had become too hot in an oven during the process of painting them in a way they did more than 10 years ago. I saw them in a dustbin at the Rapala factory in Vaaksy and asked for some to give a try at home for it was such a special color. During a trip to Lough Mask in Ireland I discovered that black lures do very well in clear water and sunny days when other lures produce nothing. During that trip I caught a 30 lb pike of 118 cm on this lure and then I started asking Rapala to make some special black lures for me to test and to see if they catch well. They really did but because black is a bad color to sell, fishermen prefer fire tiger, clow, hot perch etc, they only were sold in the Jan Eggers Selection kits in Germany In the future I will publish some more pics of strange looking Rapala lures on this side but first I must look in the boxes with hundreds of Rapala lures and probably I can help sooner or later collectors with missing models and colors.
Regarding pictures and lures of Lauri Rapala visiting the USA this information: By accident I met about 20 years ago the photographer Art Tourangeau who was commissioned to make pics of Lauri's visit and Art gave me some pics of Lauri and I think nobody has ever seen them
I promise to share interesting Rapala information with the members of this interesting site and there is much more to tell about my now 34 year long relationship with the company still making very good lures. Enough for now, regards
Jan Eggers

Aha! So I was right about why they called him 'The Pike Ferret' Jan, again thank you so much for your contributions - I think having you here makes this little old fishing lure message board more distinct than any other - what other lure board can boast such a thing? ;D
