Ok, I've heard this 'thing' at least once a week for the past few months.
This animal screeches and howls almost constantly while walking through the woods...it almost sounds like its injured or something.
Whatever it is, its freaky..and it gives me chills everytime I hear it. I know its not a bird or owl, since one night it came close to the house, and I opened the slider to try to get a look.
Well, it heard me open the door, and it took off - fast. I could hear it running through the woods. Someone suggested a raccoon, but I've heard them before and it does not sound like them.
I've heard they're coyotes around here too...but I've heard those in the wild too, and it does not sound like that either.
Anyway, I took a video clip, but only for the sound. You'll have to turn the sound up a bit to hear it.
If anyone knows...let me know...

Where did you find that? That sounds just like it! And I know we have foxes around, because I've seen them. I also know they although they are seen during the day, I think they prefer to be nocturnal. For such a small animal, they sure make a lot of noise. When I recorded that, he had to be at least 3-4 houses away...

Nice work, Chuckstacklebox, problem solved. Still sounds like something out of the Blair Witch Project.

Funny, we have the same kind of noises around here, but usually followed by some kind of recoil, and then silence...

Funny, we have the same kind of noises around here, but usually followed by some kind of recoil, and then silence... LMAO Its funny we live so far apart and we have the same things happen here. Instead of fox its usually a Whitetail deer on the recieving end of the recoil.Although lately its been coyotes.

Funny, we have the same kind of noises around here, but usually followed by some kind of recoil, and then silence... I wish I could pick off all the deer that run through my property. They are more common than freakin' squirrels around here... I keep telling the wife I want to setup claymores around the perimeter...

LMAO claymores would definatly solve the deer problem.A few tricks with the claymores and you could wipe them out in one shot.

This is funny!! Thousands of miles apart and you'd think we were on the same road ...coyotes, whitetails, too many of them... Getting a deer here means going for a walk with a loaded rifle. In fact, it's so 'un' sporting that many guys have stopped hunting them as it's become slightly anti-climactic. With all the elk, moose, bears, and other things running around, well, the lowly deer isn't really worth the lead anymore. Personally, it's my kind of hunting..wake up late in the morning, have an extra coffee or two, call my buddy see if he's spotted any around the bales...head out in the truck, and by 1 o'clock, I can drop it off at the butcher shop. If I stay out till 3, I can drop two off....but only if I miss a couple, otherwise I'm done by 1:30 Same goes for the trout fishing...you almost want to make it hard, or your trip is over in a half hour and you've hit your catch limit. Especially with those little 3cm Rap original floaters in the trout pattern...it takes more time to buy fish at the grocery store!!

Exactly, right? As If said before on here, the part of NJ I live in is not 'typical' NJ (i.e. airports, toxic waste dumps, turnpikes, etc). I've seen my share of skunks, possums, racoons, foxes, turkey, deer, groundhogs, bear...once I ever had a frickin' beaver walking around in the front of my house! I have even seen snapping turtles show up out of nowhere..and the closest body of water is a quarter of a mile away! This is an example of how 'not scared' the stupid deer are by my house, this was taken from our rear slider, without using a zoom -

Great picture Ted Sometimes deer can be so stupid and other times (usually when I'am hunting them) you blink and they snort then take off like a fighter jet

Quite a pic Ted! Nice yard too... Unfortunately it doesn't look quite that 'civilized' around here...our climate pounds the crap out of everything. But it certainly is rugged in its own right... Then again, scenes like this aren't that far of a drive so we put up with alot... I couldn't find any deer pics, but last time we went to Banff for supper a couple of weeks ago, these little guys were out for a stroll... I agree muskiehunter...they have internal radar that kicks in November 1st...all year the deer around here are a public menace. Come hunting season...they vanish, well at least from the roads and yards. You have to get off the porch and actually walk out into the back forty.

Zeroroaster those pics are awesome ;D ;D .Thats one of the things I love about Canada is that there aren't many people, but a ton of wildlife. I'am not really a people person,I try to keep to myself as much as possible. My wife gives me grief about this all the time

Thanks muskiehunter! Glad you enjoyed the pics of our little piece of the Earth. Unfortunately we have cities and places like that that are no different from anywhere else...gridlock, crime, stress, etc, etc...Luckily, that's about 150 miles from here (Calgary). Like yourself, I'm somewhat 'anti-social' but then to live here, you kind of have to be. Confidentially, I get a big kick out of the 'citiots' that come out here to be 'extreme' and then succumb to the environment...even in summer. What can I say, sometimes, the bear wins! ;D Even little critters like those big horn sheep...get them on the wrong day, and you're buying yourself a new car door... That said, I guess the people who live here are kind of like the wildlife we co-exist with...sure, come for a visit, but respect it or someone is going to get hurt.

A couple of pics to whet your whistle... Another bighorn surveying the situation... Unfortunately this pic of our favorite lake was taken in MAY... When you get off the beaten track, there's no other place like this...anywhere...
