Well Howdy Ya'll
I finally got a little 'free time'
I had planned on another Duck hunting Opener
and boy was I really greatful.
I went north to the 'Farm' for some much needed R & R.
The weather looked so so
(which is good for ducks)
Had a great time with my Dad, Uncle and my Older brother.
First morning was good,
we got 6 geese and 10 ducks.
Had one blue bird day and ended up getting a couple ducks that day.
All in all, we ended up bagging 50 birds,
15 geese, 36 ducks
(duck species were quite varied for this time of year)
Blue & green winged teal, A few mallards and what really caught
us off-guard was the number of flight ducks we got)
Normally we don't see flight ducks till later in the season.
Now don't ask me about the shotgun shell to duck ratio,
All I'll say is that we got a LOT of shooting.
Plus we did get the ducks & geese.
Thank goodness, I buy my shells by the case rather than by the box,
Cause we went through a couple
of CASES of shells.
On a related note,
I'll be taking my birthday off for some more duck hunting,
and had one of my boss's ask if there was any way they could get a hold of me.
I told her what I would be doing and that I'd be sitting in a boat in my blind all day...
well she didn't quite understand,
So I had to spell out, that if
she could locate me
and that
if anyone was to try and come out to talk to me
(in my blind)
(I don't carry a cell phone to my blind)
that the ONE thing she should remember is..
I'll have a loaded weapon
along with a couple of BOXES
of 3 inch, 12 gauge, number 2's & 4's
Guess what I got after this,
That 'deer in the headlight look from her"
Had no clue about what I was talking about...
Why would I go hunting , when everything you need can be bought at a store.
Some things you just can't explain,
whether it's fish camp, deer camp or duck camp.
It's not always about putting game in the fridge,
it's about the time spent with family and friends
and the blessing of maybe, just maybe
being able to bag a couple of birds.
Man, the 'younger' Gen
needs to get outdoors more,
put away the game boys, PS2, cell phones
and all that sort of thing,
And
Enjoy what we have in the great outdoors and the bounty it can provide.
Anywho...
I had a GREAT duck opener here in Michigan
Time anyway from all the BS.
