I rarely get out this early in the year, I figured the pickerel and yellow perch would be biting, but in no way did I imagine the bass would be hitting - and hitting HARD - as they did today. Every bass today was at least 2.5 lbs to 4lbs today - which is pretty decent for NJ. All in all I think I lost count at around 25 total fish, and I did end up missing 5 or 6....probably my best day every fishing - seriously. My thumb is raw, my hands and face are sunburned, Ive got cuts all over my hands...and i feel awesome. ;D

Hello Fishooked,

Petri heil we say here in germany for such great catches.
We are not allowed to fish any Pike, Walleye and so on until June 1.

Very nice fish, it seemed to be a very good day out on the water. Pike and Pickerel really love those Minnow raps don't they. Which makes me wonder if they will ever make a large pike/muskie size Minnow Rap some day.
Hey tommi, is ice fishing allowed in Germany? An exchange student from Nordrein-westfalen told me that it wasn't, but I thought I read about ice fishing in Germany somewhere.

Now that would be something...although I would suspect with the lure shape, lip design, that a jointed model probably wouldn't work..but I'd still buy them.

nathenpd, ice fishing is possible in Germany , but not at all seas and rivers. Befor you will do that, you must checkout the law for each of the lakes or rivers. Even on two lakes 5 miles away, is one allowed and one not. That is law in Germany. Each person can make his one for his lake . Greetings Thomas

And it's been so long since I was out on the water, the only exposed parts of my skin got sunburned/windburn. The temp was 65, but with wind blowing across a lake with still freezing water, it makes it feel like 50-55.

Wow...what a day! I'd keep the location of that lake pretty quiet if I was you, lol. (PM Me) lol... I want to take my 11 year old out and have a day like that. Took him to a few places by me without much success (dead water, I think) and he was pretty bummed. Maybe if his dad actually knew something about fishing... Beautiful Rapalas, btw, I can see the quality difference in the crap I have used in the past. I'm also impressed by teh quality of your ever present green fleece jacket. NY Jets, I assume? lol

Sometimes if you are using a rod with a medium to fast tip and try to troll anything, the rod bends like crazy because of the action of the lure, if it has a wide wobble. The MR9 runs nice & night, and I can troll it in most areas where I wont keep dragging the bottom on my lake. If I went with a MR-11 Im sure I'll be dredging the bottom for the lake for sure...

Hi, Ted, and WOW what a field day! I love the Crappies on that MR! I have had them hit thge original floaters in sizes up to 11 but that is some steady action by you - also these Pike are different than the WI ones (pickerel maybe?) wow did you ever have a great opener! Congratulations! (I am mostly a shore angler so I rarely use deep runners myself...maybe I should convert too LOL)

(I am mostly a shore angler so I rarely use deep runners myself...maybe I should convert too LOL) The lake I fish is filled with chain pickerel, and there's some big ones in there too. If the bass aren't hitting, the pickerel basically slam anything that moves, which is always nice. It figures that I caught so many fish that one day, that the last two times I went out I pretty much struck out...guess I shot my load that day Shore angler? You should probably get a hold of the new Clackin' Raps, you can cast those things a mile, and they are a great seach bait...just have to reel them in quick once you approach shallower waters.

I have never fished an MR. I have dozens of rapalas but none of those. That will be rectified soonest, probably from EBay as I dont recall seeing them in my home area. Great batch of fish!!!
