My friend and his son went with me fishing on Sat. We had 40+ walleyes. They ranged from 5" to 20". We were out form 5:30 to 12:00. The fishing pattern was trolling JSR-4 and SR-5 on leadcore in 9-10' water and going over a 7' rock hump at the end of a under water point. Are best color was walleye.

The JSR4 is one of my favorite Rapalas and favorite one to troll with. Nice fishing.

SSD, P, BB, BSD, and SD on the JSR4 and 5 are my best colors and have been great producers for bass and crappie. I've also caught a few yellow perch and chain pickerel and have caught 1 walleye with a 5.

Hey Jeremy, have you tried the JSR's in any of the new colors yet? I like the RCW,FCW with these but was wondering if you had any luck with the BCSD Steve

Hey Steve, I have tried the new colors. Not impressed for walleyes but I do think they will make pretty good sauger colors. The red diving bills just over take the color scheme IMO. I do like a red bill for the Mississippi river (Red Wing) where we catch a lot of saugers. Just my thoughts.

I never thought about this until you mentioned it but ya the red bill does take away from the color after looking at them

Have you tried the new Bleeding patterns for fish other than eyes? I enjoy using the Bleeding patterns on the F which have caught me bass, crappie, sunnies, yellow perch, and chain pickerel.

This brings up a question in my head on the whole 'red bill' thing... Given the fact that underwater, the color 'red' is the very first color to be filtered out...which means...it probably doesn't even appear red anymore to the fish, now does it? If that's the case....then what's the point of the red bill in the first place?

i think that IS the point, kinda like red fihing line, they are not visible at depths. a red lip ads color for the fisherman, and hides the unnatural lip to the fish. IMO bacon

If I am remembering right: red/yellow is the best color the walleyes see with their funny eyes. I think bacon has a very good point on the covering the clear bill. I think it also gives the fish a contact point so they can head hit it. We have used red trebles on the front of our rapalas when we are hooking all of the fish on the rear to give them a point to aim for. It tells you a lot of the fishes mood toward your lure on how it is hooked. I have colored bills red or black for years and still only prefer it in sauger populated bodies of water. Maybe this is because the suagers live in more turbid waters (for the most part) and they are a more aggressive fish. As for trying these with any other species I have not. I only fish for walleyes in the summer and perch/walleyes on the ice.
