Wednesday I hit the saltwater. There was a pretty strong easterly wind which made the fishing tough. I did find an area below a long jetty where I didn't have to worry about the wind even though the tide was coming in. While I was starting to get set up I saw a few breaks within casting range. I decided to toss a SSP12 MU out there. Had 1 fish on for a second and later had 1 fish following it which gave it a few hits. I wasn't having anymore luck with the SSP12. I started to notice a cormorant was eating small baitfish where the fish were breaking. So I threw a SSP9 CR out there. Had 1 explosion that was it. My next lure was a SSR9 SD. That did the trick. I caught 2 stripers around 20" and had a few other swirls on the surface while doing a slow retrieve right near the surface. By the time the water high enough for the wind to hit it the fishing calmed down. I did see others out there on a long jetty catching blues and stripers but they were chunking on the bottom in the rough seas. I checked out a few other areas around where I was but had no more luck with the 2 SSP's and SSR. Also gave a Kastmaster and Bomber Magnum Jointed Long A a few tries but nothing on them.
As I have said many times to others who know me, Shallow Shad Rap Has Done It Again!
