The nine and a half pounder we caught was a big ugly freak...this is typical of the pretty rainbows we have around here... A few pounds, and really, really tasty!

Thanks Thomas! Although life here can be difficult, it certainly has its rewards...we can only fish approximately five months of the year because the rest of the time it's frozen... At least when it does melt off, we pull some pretty nice fish. Winter lasts just about forever here, but the climate doesn't seem to hurt the fish!

That's right Tommi, I understand winters in Germany are pretty nice...for us the snow usually starts to fly in late September and usually we get continually below freezing by late October. This year our last snowfall was on the 6th of June. That's right, JUNE. That makes for a long, long winter. Our daytime high yesterday was only 15C, and during the winter stretches of -40C are not uncommon. The good news in all of that is that these mountain lakes never get warm. The fish taste absolutely wonderful, they're already almost frozen! I think the warmest we've seen the water this year so far is about 10C. Usually, the best fishing here is in October just before the ice comes back. The fish are desperately trying to pack on weight before the long winter so they hit everything that moves. So what if we have to fish with winter clothes on and it's usually snowing..heh, heh

I went deer hunting in Saskatchewan a few years ago and when I got up there I was like WTF Mind you this was in the first week of November.I got out of my truck and the snot in my nose froze and there was about 3 feet of snow on the ground. I think the best part of my hunt was the solitude. It was so peaceful and quiet. The deer wasn't bad either I shot a 21" wide 10 pointer that weighed 367 pounds ;D

hahahaha!!! Good ol' Saskatchewan..man, I must say that a 367 lb. deer is very, very nice...good show!! As for the solitude, that explains much of this country's rural areas. I still marvel at how many MILLIONS of square miles are pretty much nothing. Nope, no overcrowding here! Mind you, upstate Michigan is no slouch either. I used to drive 18 wheeler up through there, and it's a beauty in its own right. That and you get all that nice balmy weather...
