....and yes, there ARE fish in this thread! ;D Blew off work and hour early and got on the water around 6pm...a little windier than I had expected, and it wasn't exactly perfect topwater conditions. But it was perfect Senko conditions... Now, I think I have a brand new love: the DTFAT01 These things are PERFECT for weedy lakes, they barely dive at at, probably not even 6" - I think Original Floaters dive deeper than these. These things did not pick up much weeds at all! But they did pick up fish... ;D Oh, and side not, this is what some Rapalas look like under those uv fishing lights at night - And Shane, here is your obligatory lake picture... If you fish shallow weedy lakes, the DTFAT01 is a must...

Hi Ted,
nice bass you´ve catch.
And the pike is perfect coloured.
This sort of bass is missing here in Germany.
When I see how they jump and fight, I think they must be put out here in some lakes or rivers.

Yeah, I'm with you bacon on the whole 'glove' thing...besides, a true pike fisherman should have at least a couple of mangled fingers, right? Ok, seriously? When we go fishing pike up here, we bring a baseball bat and wear the heaviest work gloves we can find (last time I wore my chainsaw gloves with the kevlar backing). If you're pulling pike over the ten pound mark, battle armour is a really, really good idea. Super nice fish Ted, and a really nice lake too! That looks like a nice relaxing time...

I had a bad experience with large chain & a F13 in its mouth once. ..hence the name 'Fishooked'... Now I don't take any chances with those bastards, call me a wuss, I don't care, now I use the gloves on those slimy bastards.

It's also funny how that red shad laminate Senko only seems to kick ass on my lake, and nowhere else..

Y'know each lake is like it's own little world. What works in one, may not in an another, regardless if the lake holds the same species or not. As people are creatures of habit influenced by our immediate environment, so are the fish. LA and NY are both American cities but have an entirely different groove...same goes for the lakes...

not so about the senko, these are also a big favorite of mine on the lakes around here. yeah, you have to be careful, those big toothy fish can get a little out of hand. had a 36in pike distroy a TD-9 and my life jacket all at the same time, thought i was going to have to go overboard til she quit flopping. i have never had the pleasure of being badly hooked, had to pull and treble out of my wifes knee that was JUST in past the barb, but no big deal. she still blames me for that..."what was a H-13 doing in my rain coat pocket?" oops. however, i have found that i have more success with lures after catching a pike with them first, so much so that when breaking in a new lure, i hit the 'pike' areas first and once one is caught, i will rub the lure on the pike til all are good and slimy and then go back to fishing, and, to me, it seems like i catch more fish. dont know, maybe im just a dope, but its what i do bacon

Senko, hunh? I'll have to see if we can even get those up here...never seen one. As for hooking yourself, of significant other, maybe there is something to be said for our 'barbless hook' law. That's right, if fishing wasn't already touch and go enough as it is, it's illegal to fish in the Province of Alberta with a barbed hook. We lovingly pinch them all down whenever we buy tackle...I guess the upside is that it does very little damage to the fish, and consequently the fisherman..

They don't look like much, but they are lethal. Fat & loaded with salt, they cast a mile, I always fish them weightless with a Mister Twister keeper hook...

Nope, we don't have those up here....bummer! Then again, that would classify as 'bait' and that's also illegal on much of the water here. There's only a place or two that allows bait. The rest of the time it's barbless hooks, and artificial lures..only. We even have a few places where it's fly only. That makes for some frustrating fishing depending on the day...
Who knows, maybe when I get back East they'll have those things...

I'd be curious to see some of the rules and regulations when it comes to bait...but you can pick up Senkos from pretty much any of the advertisers on this site, Im sure they'll deliver to Canada...hell if I have any extra bags lying around I'll send you some myself...

Ted,
Thanks for the pics of the lake ;D Good job on the fish too. I especially like the info on the DT1. I will have to go out a pick up a few. Also, is your boat always that messy - man you're going to get hooked! I too caught some fish this weekend, nothing great but forgot the pics for the board, next time. Is that a chain pickeral with the glove picture? Nice chain.
Finally, a story on getting hooked. So I go to Nantuckett Striper and blue fishing. The fishing is great on these large metal spoons with big hooks, and the beasts break you off every so often so I keep my spare spoons in my rain coat pocket. On my way to fly home, I put that same rain coat through the scanning machine at Logan airport(Boston) just a short while after 9/11. I get the, "Sir, what is in your coat pocket", nothing was all I could think to say. They pull out that 5 inch hopkins spoon with that large treble and say, "what is this", best striper bait on Nantuckett. They said I couldn't have it and it was going in the trash. I told the security guy he should bring it home use it for stripers. Nobody was hooked in that story but I'm sure it would have gone down differently if I had hooked that security guy.

Airport guys..no sense of humour...*bah* Ted, yes, if it's scented, flavoured, or anything of that nature, it's considered 'bait'. The rules here are very stringent. Even then, when they do allow bait at certain stock lakes here, they prefer we use something like a natural worm, or something like that as it's better for the ecosystem...no, I'm not kidding. Anyhew, it just 'ups the game', that's all... Last night at the lake, for instance, was awesome. Although I know this place isn't about fly fishing, nonetheless, it was a pristine evening just after the thunderheads rolled through, so I went with the fly rod to try some new patterns I've been clowning with. The guys who had bait were doing ok, but no big successes. My little 'Super Bee' went to town! It was great fun! I kept switching flies to test out the different patterns I'd come up with over the last little while, but every once in a while I'd flip back to the Bee for some top water fun. When I need to eat, I bring the hardware, i.e, trout Raps, etc, but it was awfully fun to just go clown around in the water yesterday...and still catch fish!

Do you know what's stupid? The whole time I was fishing the only thing I could think of was you making fun of me if I didn't catch anything, and posted more lake pictures.... Was glad to get out of the slump with 9 fish that night

Just getting in your head. You know I only do it because I'm jealous of your website and I can't stand your taste in Football teams. I guess now the pressure is on me to bring the camera and take some pics. Will do soon.
