Went fishing with my friend Doug today to end my vacation on the big pond. We landed 10 of the 12 fish we had on the line.
We started the day late, leaving the dock around 6 this morning. We make our initial pass and pick up 2 kings. We turn and make another pass and pick up 1 on the turn and 1 during the pass.
When we get to the hot spot, Doug gets hit on a downrigger, then I get hit on the other rigger. We are contemplating how we are going to net these two when a dipsy goes off.
A little later we pick up a couple more as things slowed down around 11 AM. We are sitting at 8 when we are getting close to the hot spot. Doug picks up number 9 on a rigger, and as he is setting it back, the other rigger goes off. Fish on....my favorite spoon strikes again. 4 or 5 jumps later I have slack line on my pole, but I can still see the fish jumping with the spoon in his mouth. No more favorite spoon.
Get that line set back with a new slider and the other rigger goes off. Finally number 10 is coming to the boat. 4 more jumps and slack line. Dougs favorite spoon is now gone. The fish stayed at the surface for about 5 minutes, but we couldn't get the boat turned with the boards in time to get to him.
We had to set the boards back after attempting to get em in, so as I set the 8 color out, Doug is hooking up the board when he yells fish on....I look at the dipsys and the riggers and say "where"? he replies, the rod in your hand. As he was hooking up the board to the leadcore I put out, a 16 pound king tried to cut off his finger. This one makes several jumps and a run at the boat, but finally number 10 is on ice and we are heading in at 1230.
The biggest king of the day topped the scales at 18 pounds.
