So, against my better judgment, the kid and I went fishing last night. No, the weather wasn't all that bad, it was light drizzle and fifty degrees...kind of perfect actually.
The problem is that we just finished a long weekend out here. Campers by the truckload...way too much pressure on the little lake. That and two days of hail, thunder, etc,etc..and a 25 degree drop in water temperature, well, the fishing was dismal.
On the upside, as my son and I were fishing in the drizzle, it was nice to feel cold again! We're really not equipped to handle the heat here, and finally it broke. We were properly dressed for the rain, so it was just a nice night to sit back, play with some tackle in the water, and have a really, really good philosophical conversation...nights like that are priceless. As my son makes his way through high school, I am truly fortunate that my teenager is talking to me. Obviously, something there went really, really right.
I think about how someday he'll strike off on his own, and we too may be on a different path, so I hope we both remember those magical times at the little lake...and who cares about how bad the fishing was.

You can't ask for anything better then that ;D You have raised your son well and in today's society that is rare. The teens here seem to be so disrespectful which is really annoying.Teenage girls that cuss like sailors when I was that age that was unheard of.Society today is a mess!!!! On the heat I'am the same way.I hate the heat I would rather be cold then warm. When I lived in Georgia its was absolutely misreable They can have that 95 degree weather give me some snow. The only thing I like about the summer months is open water fishing other then that summer sucks.

Agreed...other than open water, summer does indeed suck. I'll be really, really happy after the Labour Day weekend so we can have our lake back. As soon as the temperatures fall back below freezing at night (usually end of August) the campers bugger off back to their condos and leave the bush to us. We have a really good run of fishing from the beginning of September until the end of October (if it doesn't ice over by then), and then in November, they're all back from the city with their guns this time...figuring they're going hunting. For the entire month of November we stay in town, preferably in the basement...well out of range.

things here are the exact opposite. in the summer, you can catch fish without problems. in winter, except in the main rivers (the nearest is 40 km from here), it's quite impossible to catch something... well, i wish i had 75-80 degrees all the year (it's quite normale to go over 100, luckily i can stand hot very well, but i suffer cold a lot). well, too much hot is not the best for me too

Well Walter, you wouldn't be happy here today..it looks like our two weeks of summer are all over and we're back to a big 8 degrees Celcius (48F) for a daytime high. We'll get the odd nice day from here till the water freezes, but the hot is definitely all done. The good news? Less bugs, and the fishing is about to get really, really good as they try to pack on weight before the big cold. So, where are you?

No biggie Muskie, I mailed it off at the post office this morning... ;D I must say, I left the window open last night, and man, did I sleep!! All nice and bundled up, so toasty and warm on the inside, but you can feel the end of your nose freezing...perfect. I love this time of year, and I'd better get fishing...only a matter of a month or two, and she's all frozen over.

I normally have the air conditioner on but due to the cost of electricity and being laid off from work trying to cut costs a little here and there

I hear ya!! Luckily, a/c is a non-issue for us. Unfortunately heating is very important so as long as we have enough reserve for the natural gas, we're in good shape. If our furnace doesn't work, it's game over, baby. Somebody really screwed up here this week and sent us some more warm weather...what's up with that? It's supposed to be over 80 degrees by Friday...man, that's all wrong. So back to dismal fishing we go. I guess I shouldn't complain. I'm not sure why, but the shop got busy all of a sudden. Normally in August I'm clowning around, but I'm back logged for at least a week if not more. This is nuts! Maybe everybody's realizing that this economy thing is not going away, and that they can't afford the new and shiny so they have to fix the old and crusty. Let me tell ya, for these oil patch kids up here, it's a hard lesson to learn when the money runs out.... Luckily for us, being a mom and pop shop, we've always run lean so this has made absolutely no difference on the bottom line. Brings to mind grasshoppers and ants, tortoises and hares, etc,etc... Anyhew, hang in there buddy...it'll cool off soon and the a/c will be a thought of the past.

Hey Zero, Thanks I got the weather in the mail today The winters here aren't as bad as yours but the gas companies find a reason to raise the rates I need to invest in a outdoor woodburner, wood heat is so much warmer then gas heat and I love to work in the bush so as soon as some extra greenbacks come my way that will be the way I'll go. I agree with you on the people that are spoiled.I was brought up to live within my means so the economy hasen't really bothered me.The only time it does is when I want to buy Rapalas I wish there were more shops like yours here.I love Mom and Pop stores the service is second to none and its a good place to shoot the shit with others.I would rather spend my money here and put it in the pocket of good folks then in a bigger store even if the same item costs more(which it always does). These bigger stores bit off more then they could chew and its now its bitten them in the ass. Steve p.s. Check your PM's
