Hi All, Just wanted to post this short rant and get your feelings on the subject. I have noticed recently(last 10 years) the gradual shift of Rapala's product line away from wood(balsa) lures to plastic lures. Let me state a few examples.... Husky(Wood) to the Husky Jerk(Plastic), The New Shad Rap Lines [JSR(plastic) SRRS(plastic) and now the GSR(plastic). This year the Fat Rap(originally wood) will go to plastic as well. And the topper is the new Highly anticipated Rapala lure of the future....The X-rap(you guessed it Plastic). I personally believe the X-rap will replace the Longcast(wood) since the lures of similar size, weight and fishability. Don't get me wrong, plastic lures catch fish too, but one of the selling points for Rapala for me over the years was the wooden lure. I dread for the day when the original floating goes by the way of wood and becomes one of Rapala's long line of plastic lures Your Thoughts

Well I would guess its probably a cost-cutting measure on their part. Easier to use plastic than to lathe all those lure blanks from balsa. Sure they have their own farmed balsa trees for this, as I understand it, but I would imagine it gets expensive. Maybe being the lures as popular as they are newer models will continute to be plastic, but certain ones, such as the 'Originals' should remain wood. But I feel ya on that Shane...
