Can anyone make sense of the way Rapala lures are priced? I have noticed that generally an $8.00 lure in Canada is 8.00 British pounds or $8.00 U.S. Given the rates of exchange around the world these lures vary substantialy in price depending on where purchased. After visiting a UK website I realized, for example, that the brits are paying $20.00 CDN. for a Super Shad Rap. Since most are produced in Ireland (a few in Estonia) I wonder who's getting hosed here? Just wondering ?

Well, from what I've seen you'll pay a bundle for the same lure in the UK, but less in Canada (from a US Buyer anyway). Your best bet would be to get your lures in the USA or on ebay...

ok, theres lots of websites that offer currancy conversions, the one i like is kitco.com, because i like to keep track of precious metals too. but as a general rule, i figure it as this, $1US = about $.75 in canada, so if you buy something in canada for $1can, its about $.75in US money, Australia is at about the same rate, give a few pennys. the euro and the pound are the other way, if you pay 1 pound, thats about $1.75-$1.85 US, or 1 Euro is about $1.25US dollars. the reason for the extreme difference is just location, and import taxes, ect. in great brittan, rapalas run about 4-7GBP, about how they go for $4-7 here in the usa, but the excange rate plays in to make them about 80-90%more expensive in the UK, but everything is more expensive over there, but the basic wage is also higher. in canada, i see lots of lures in the $8can range, however the excange rate plays a reverse role, actually losing about 25% making them less then $8US, but still higher then in the USA. its the import tax, and supply and demand thing again that holds the price higher in canada. the biggest kicker to it all is rapala finland still makes different colors and lures to send all over the world, canada gets some(pearl, ect)europe gets some(RCL, SSH, CDJ's), and asia gets even more(SFR's, and all those japan specials), even australia gets more, and rapala USA has there own and cant touch the others, until now. talked to a rapala rep last weekend, and it sounds like the usa maybe has started to open up some trade markets, mostly with canada, and we might be seeing some new lures in the US markets. ill wait and see, if they make my pearl shad rap cheap, ill be mad.
