I was just in the store looking at J-13's and noticed they are made of Abache wood.

I was under the impression it was Apache wood . But I very well could be wrong . I have a few proto type lures where they tryed out this wood . I think its just another way to save a buck .

It might be more durable than the soft and fragile balsa wood.
But its more likely to save money, and earn more.
Tobad the smaller rapala lures over here are all made out of goddamn plastic.

hi guys.
this type of wood is called abachi here.
the magnums were made of this for a long time.
almost as light as balsa, but much more durable. i have cut some wobblers out of it, and they stands pike attacks much better than balsa.
so i would not say they save money, abachi is quite expensive here. its used mostly for interior of saunas cause its very durable when wet and will not swell as most other wood does when taking up water.

well, rapala manages its own balsa plantations in south america, but look at all the new lures that rapala has intoduced in just the last few years, alot of them have been wood lures, some plastic, but there lines of wood lures im sure have doubled in the last 7-8 years(when you count all the addition euro colors/styles). plus im sure there is a lot of grief having plantations in the rainforest, from enviromental groups and such that it might not be cost productive anymore. i know the cdmags were not balsa, balsa is nice to work with, but it really isnt as strong as i would like, i will have to break up some of this abache wood and see if it is any stronger. be intresting to know where its grown, supplies out of africa or eastern europe is probably a lot easier/cheaper to get the SA. bacon
