A few days ago I hit one of my favorite parks again. Covered the same areas as I did the last time I was there. Wasn't having any luck with a SSR-7 SH and a SSR-5 SD. Once I started playing around with twitching a J-9 S right on the surface at one of the ponds the bite started. One of my fist casts out there resulted in a 12" chain pickerel. A few casts later I saw a fish come shooting out from cover but never hit the lure. I knew it was a pickerel. As I kept on moving along that pond I had 3 nice explosions by pickerel and caught another 10" pickerel. No bass were interested all day.

I have always had my best pickeral fishing with a jointed silver (9 or 11). It is absolutely the best!!!! J-9 and F-9 in silver have always been good pickerel lures. But there's that 1 Rapala that can catch any fish out there which is the 1 lure that caught me my personal best 20" 3 pound pickerel. I'm sure you guys know which 1 Rapala that was that caught me that trophy.

Never really tried the Jointed Rapala's except for shallow water trolling in the spring for trout. Might have to experiment some

Never really tried the Jointed Rapala's except for shallow water trolling in the spring for trout. Might have to experiment some Take a J-7 or J-5 in S or P and you'll be into largemouths. Nice lure for crappie and yellow perch too. J-7, 9, and 11 in S are killers for bass and pickerel. A really nice retrieve I do with the J's is rod tip straight up while reeling very slowly and twitching the lure right on the surface with occasional pauses. Crappie love that with the 5 and 7 and bass and pickerel come shooting out from the cover and smack the 7, 9, and 11.
