i was thinking about making a plastic box with a minimal fishing kit. so, just to have an idea on what could be useful, i tried looking for detailed infos on army fishing kits.
i asked to both an italian soldier and an us army soldier, they told me similar things. the us soldier told me that those kits are distributed only to some corps, that different corps may have different kits, and that all specifications on those kits are public. however he didn't know where to find precise informations on the components. the italian soldier gave me the same answer, telling me confindentially that italian kits are usually quite cheap and not very useful...
so, does anyone know the exact specifications of those kits (box type and size, line # and lenght, hook size, tools, etc)? if so, could you please give me some advice? i want to try and see what i can do with a very little budget and normal, commercial tackle :thanks:

Walter, did you get yourself a kit yet - or make your own? I'm sure there would be enough room in the kit for a small J5.

i'm going to build myself a little kit.
i don't think i need a survival kit in the strict sense of the term (here it is impossibile to get lost, and however i know the area quite well, if something bad happens usually - and luckily - you can be found easily), i think it could be useful for improvised fishing or something similar.
yes, a small j5 could be a good idea, unluckily it is not easy to find, and rapalas around here are not cheap at all

Walter, I finally got around to getting a couple of photos on my mini tackle box: Mini Tackle Box with Pen Telescopic Rod With Pen Rod extended and Reel Attached Here's a link to a large version of the second photo: Large version of second photoThe rod is just a few millimeters short of 1 meter when extended.

Very cool kit man. That would be great to keep in a car or truck. I personally almost always have at least 1 rod in my car, but there are occasions when you can't have a rod with you. It would be cool to have this under a seat whenever you need it.

It's actually much smaller than you think - it's 19x13cm (71/2x51/8) so it even fits in a small back pack when hiking (never know when you're going to come across a small lake or river)

Difficult to say really. After watching that YouTube video of the guy catching a shark on a Barbie rod all I can say is it depends on how skilled you are and how much clear water you have to tire the fish out. I'm sure though that it would be able to handle most fish - probably not a monster catfish though I do intend doing some fishing with it just to test it and find out how useful it really is
