leave a lure in a tree, I mean.... Just thought this pic was funny.... When ever i do this, i always make a comment about casting into structure. seems like i cast into structure alot. there is one very hungry tree over my favorite trout hole, it has taken several of my ristos 4's over the years. bacon

I get a lot of those lures for free since I fish out of a deep V boat,my deck is higher so I can reach the lures that guys in bass boats can't ...But I've put my share up there to.

I hate losing lures I'll try everything to get them unstuck I remember 1 day I found over 50 lures snagged on the bottom. There were Rapala's,Bombers,Bandits, and a few OLD ones. They were down there for awhile because I couldn't make them out as to what kind they were. Since I started diving I find alot more then I lose though so if I lose a few its not to bad.

I climb more trees nowadays than I did when I was a kid. If there's a way to get it back, I find it. Otherwise I come back with the saw!!

Last year while fishing one day in March, I ended a day pretty badly after getting a Shallow Shad Rap stuck in a tree. Went to cast a Shallow Shad Rap and got it stuck on a branch that I knew I could reach. While trying my hardest to reach out there with a long branch in my right hand and holding on tight to another tree with my left, I slipped and fell in the water when the lure fell in. After finally getting out of the water I couldn't move my right arm I was in so much pain. A buddy of mine came to pick me up and took me to the hospital. Took x-rays and found nothing broken. Problem was I inflamed the tendon on my right shoulder which ended up being shoulder tendonitis. Had to go to a local orthopedic twice a week for 2 months.

This is why I use 50lb braid It may be more visible than mono, but I still seem to outfish most people I fish with lol and I hardly ever lose a bait to a tree or a rock, and if I do, I either go swimming or climbing!

I need to find this tree that Bacon has thrown all his #4's into. haha
I don't have as much trouble now with a baitcaster as I used to with a spinning reel....... when I was little all I could use was a spinning reel, and lost PLENTY of my dad's Long Cast Minnows to the trees.

I still know a tree that contains a J-11 BHO... I once hanged a magnum in a tree, I was thinkin' it would be impossible to get it back. A week later a young kid was fishing with it. He climbed into this tree to get it. He offered me if I wanted it back,. I told him he diserved it for his brave action. here is a picture of it.. painfull as it is, this was my third cast on it. and this colour is not available here. gotta get me a tool to get my lures back..

Go to a gardening shop and look at the 'Wolf' (or similar) extending poles for picking fruit, pruning high branches etc. They are quite lightweight and probably don't cost that much. Nigel

in places where it is allowed, or at least where i can get away with it i have been known to retrieve a treed lure with my shotgun, couple of blasts into the branch below the lure and if that doesnt flat break it off the tree, alot of the time it weakens it enough that i can break it off with the line. i have not done this in a long time, but it is effective, plus its always fun to see your buddies face when you yank out the bang-stick to free a stuck lure. yeah, were hicks out here, hell, my uncle once harvested his christmas tree while we were deer hunting, walking along and come to this pretty little blue spruce, just right for a xmas tree, 2 shot with a 30-06 at the base of the tree and off we went. LOL

Hadn't thought of the shotgun!! I have however carried a saw with me in the boat. Been swimmin and climbin in order to recover treasured lures. Gettin too old for that now so the shotgun is sounding kinda good about now. Jeff Foxworthy might just have a field day with our tactics. If you've ever used a shotgun to git yer fishin lure outa a tree... you might be a redneck. Honest Warden, I was just tryin to git ma lure back, see it yonder!

I call it, "I pulled a Walt!" My brother in law...God love him, 6 out 10 cast...in the tree or in the brush pile! When the wind is against me, I laughed and said, "look, I pulled a Walt!" He didn't think it was funny. I bought him a better rod and hid his Ugly Stick! They might not break, but they are NOT the best bass rod!

How many of you can say I knock out a bird while making a cast! I knew I hit something and there it was, a red wing black bird on top of the water! *#@%&^ bird got in my way! I poked it with my rod and managed to get out of the water before becoming a big bass evening stack! I bet he wouldn't do that again! My fishin' buddy and I laughed our butts off!

I also fish heavy 30lb braid and havent lost a lure to tree, rock, or weed in years and still have great sucess catching fish. I have overturned rocks, uprooted entire weedbeds, and surfaced small submerged trees and bushes with that stuff. However, I am also more than willing to go swimming or climbing for almost any lure if needed.

I also had lost lures in trees but since I use superlines (not monofilament) it stop happening to me. I think the worst thing when fishing is losing a lure in that way
