Figured this might be a good idea, a repository for our resident artists if you wanted to see if they could reproduce a color from another lure onto a new one. I for one was wondering what a new Rapala would look like with the old Heddon crackleback colors on them, this as an example: Or something from a classic River Runt pattern.... Or something in an Arbogast Coach Dog: What other signature patterns would you love to see on your Rapalas?

Those are a piece of cake! I've done the one with the rib's before. Pain in the butt, trying to make a good stencil for it! lol. Honestly I would like to see something like a wild shiner. I know lot's of companies try but they are always too gold or just look funny. Not sure if the fish care or not but as good as wild shiner's work down here for monster bass I think that if someone came out with the real deal it would be a hit!!

They sometimes are about 7 in long and weigh about a pound.. But they flat out catch bass. We up big hook's, up through the chin and out through the nostrils. Then just troll them slow behind the boat letting them do their own thing. No cork, just lot's of line and let them go. Some guy's will throw them under mats of Hyacinth's or spatterdock but I like trolling them because I can use my artificial's while watching the shiner pole out back...

Good deal, I'll have to try that with the shiners around here, although its tough to fish more than one rod in a canoe. Plus Im not a fan of fishing live bait, only because it's so inconvenient for me, Id rather get on the lake an hour or so earlier than have to stop for shiners.

We use them up here on tip-ups for pike threw the ice was out trapping them though the ice the other day, but only got a few of the larger ones that i like, a 2 of the 4 traps had over 100 each in them, the other 2 were empty. but of the 200+ that i got, only 4 of them were over 4 inches. but when im buying them at the store for up to a dollar a piece, free minnows are still free minnows. in the summer, i was getting great numbers of the larger minnows, i think some of them are now too big to get into the traps, and this falls fry are now big enough they cant get back out, so thats what im getting is just 1.5 - 2 inch shinners, still good bait, but not what im looking for for pike. bacon

That's the other part of the equation - I've already spent enough money on Rapalas & artificials - so Im pretty much married to them and have to make them work.
Although I will try some small sunnies for bait next year for sure!

You folks always request our customs work friends to make up a prototype...their word isn't free, but extrememely reasonable, and quality to boot...

Old Bagley patterns....damn why didn't I think of this... Before Rapala I was always in love with Bagleys patterns...I need to post some of those old patterns, some would look flat out great on the DT series today... These aren't old but I love some of these patterns...
