Monday and Tuesday I headed over to a pond I found out about around this time last year. Monday it looked like about 40% of it was ice free. Tuesday more ice had melted and was more than half open water.
Monday I fished it for about 2 hours. Stayed around a cove I was fishing there last year. Lures I played with included 3" soft plastic hellgramite, SSR-9 CW, J-9 S, and DTFAT-3 S all with no luck. Happen to get the DTFAT caught on a tree limb that was hanging over the water
Hit it again Tuesday for about 3 hours and played around with 3" soft plastic hellgramite, XR-8 RT, SSR-9 SW, DTFT-3 BSD, F-7 B, J-7 S, J-9 G, and the very tail end of a FinS Fish with a 1/16oz jighead. Had a bluegill lightly tap the F-7 on the surface while lightly twitching it with occasional pauses. Twice I saw bluegills and bass following the F-7 but never hit it.

A golf course I fish has always been productive for me. Has many original farm ponds holding tons of largemouths up to 8 pounds. Caught my personal best largemouth there which was just under 8 pounds. Last year in mid March I was fishing there and caught a 7 pounder. Both of those fish were caught on a SSR-7. Whenever I'm there I never get skunked with the Shallow Shad Rap. Best colors have always been P, SH, and SD.

this pond that i fish is probably a 60 or 70 year old 2 acre farm pond ..the deepest part [ive been told by the owner ] is between 5 and 6 feet deep..needless to say as it warms up the grass almost takes it over .. you dont have a wide choice of lures to fish other than top water and weedless in the summer ..but , the old man told me that he has seen up to 10 pounders come out of it over the years ..a buddy of mine caught a 8 pounder 2 summers ago.. caught it on a black jitterbug right at dark .. i cant wait to go try my luck and wet some of these new rapala's before the grass gets bad ..
