Saturday after getting home from work I hit my ice-out pond from 4:50pm til 6pm. Wasn't having any luck at my favorite cove with a 3" soft plastic hellgramite and a F-7 B. Later for my last 15 minutes I found a spot that had a good set up of structure and open space. Casted the F-7 B out there and was twitching it on the surface when I get a nice hit. Chubby 8" bluegill. Within one of my very last casts I caught a 12" largemouth.
So happy to finally have my first successful open water day of the year.

;D Had my first success of the year today!!! My tiny local lake also has a small stream that runs behind my neighborhood. Last year I was able to catch something there earlier than I had in the lake and this year was no different. I tried the steam first and after testing out a few thing I finally got a hit on a ssr5 Bluegill, but didn't catch the fish. After that, nothing for quite a while, so I decided to try the lake. After I spent a little time trying a few different things at the lake, with absolutely nothing, I decided to try the stream again before dark. I went back to the same spot where I got the bite before with the same shallow shad rap. After a couple of casts, I caught a small largemouth if was little but I'll take it. Of course, two casts after that I snagged it on the opposite bank, and snapped my line. I saw where it floated up against a stick, so I had to walk a little ways to cross over, and then double back, to get to it. Once I got it back, I threw it back on and caught another one right before dark! I probably wouldn't have been over there if I hadn't been on rapala retrieval mode, so all in all, things worked out!!

Hit that same pond again today and found what the bass are looking for. Happen to be casting at the same spot where I caught the other 2 and went over a small branch. To get the F-5 PD back I reeled in in quickly and a bass hit it. Caught an 11" bass. Lost a bass there on the jump with the F-5 PD on the fast retrieve. Lost a nice size bluegill at a shallow are with lots of structure. Bluegills were looking for light topwater action.
Nice job getting out qbert. Happy to hear you caught most of the fish with a SSR

Happy to hear you caught most of the fish with a SSR Yeah the ssr is rapidly becoming one of my more reliable baits. All that leads to is more clutter in the tackle box, because I have tons of ssr colors I would love to try!! Also got hits on f-5 in hesh(I think), but never landed any of them.

Glad to hear you got out and had some success!!! One of the best things about the spring starting is trying out all the new stuff you accumulate over the winter!!!!

Hit my usual golf course Monday. Moved around at different ponds with a J-9 S. An area of 1 pond where I've been successful I was doing a jerk and pause-on-the-surface retrieve with the lure. Was getting a few swirls and lost 2 and caught 1. When I hit another productive spot at another pond I caught a small 4" bass on the surface with the Jointed. Wasn't having any luck with tiny soft plastics like I was the last time I was there. Tried playing with a few JSR-4 and a DTFAT-3 S with no luck. Last stop was where I caught the first of the day. Played with a F-9 FT on the surface and lost 1 and caught a chubby 12" bass. Lots of swirls and signs of fish coming to the lure.
