well, i was out a week or so ago, and had a big rainbow trout on, but in my haste to get it up and see what it was (there are some pike in this area, wanted to know if it was a trout, or if there was still only pike) it spit the hook on my RR-4 S. i was mad, but figured i would have to come back and try again. so i headed back down early this morning.
i have been trying an new little snap thingy, i am not completely sold on it yet, so i wont brag it up to bad yet, but its an easy way to tie on to a lure, and you dont tie a single knot...
anyway, after losing a RR-4 PSD, i went back to my all time favorite RR-4 SD, and snagged myself into a good trout. when i saw it come up i knew it was ok, but no where near as big as the rainbow i had one last week, thought it was going to be another rainbow until i saw the pink fins. this was an ok rainbow, but a huge brook. and then he took off, wow, i have never had a trout fight like that, could have been a 20in largemouth.
got him in and saw it was a large male, at the end of his life span, starting to look pale and hook nosed.
well, he turned out to be my new personal best brook trout at 13.5 inches (pushing more towards 14, but not quite) beating my old record of 11.5-12 inches.
but new im looking for any excuse to go back and try for that larger rainbow again, after seeing this one in about the same spot, im guessing that he was 18-20 inches.
oh yeah, a little more about the snap. i ended up losing my SD RR-4 also, but it held up to that brookie and the great fight he put up with no trouble, and im not convinced that the 2 lures i lost werent bit off by pike. but its a small wire about the size of a snap with a twist on both ends, one end clips to the lure and then there is a little turn up in the wire. you just loop the tag end of you line, hook it on the turn up, wrap the line 6 times around the wire shaft and pull, then clip off most of the tag end, and thats it. if i continue to have luck(or start having failures) i will give more info on them, they might just solve some of the snap questions by some of the board members. i was all ready to come on here and tout them up today, and then i lost those lures, so im not sure how quick i want to be. i think they where just both bite offs, since i know there are pike there, and no lure just popped back up after losing it. starting to run low on these little RR-4's, have seen some auctions lately, guess i will have to shell out the bucks and get some more.
