Very nice!! Especially the underhand flip cast technique. That isn't easy to do, but you sure make it look that way in the video!!

Mark, I noticed in the clip that you don't seem to 'strike' to set the hook. I know you've fishing the river for quite a while and probably know what you are doing but it does seem strange that a lot of the fish get off Good

I remember quite a few years ago when I was about 15 (circa '72) we used to go fishing in the River Plym over at Shaugh Bridge on the edge of Dartmoor. I was using a small spinner (had never heard of Rapalas back then) and I caught this tiny little trout that only just managed to get the treble in his mouth. I never did catch nor see anything bigger than that one. I did hear that sometimes there were salmon in season but never heard of anyone catching one.
It was encouraging to see your clip - it took me right back all those years.....

i never strike when i catch pike on lures, they seem to hook themselves, you just feel a sharp tug on the line, then they always seem to come right up to the surface, splash about, then go back down again.

hi guys i got thinking about the lost fish ive had in the last few weeks, and the losses were more than normal, although seatrout school fish do throw the hook when thrashing about, this morning i went out with the mono line and hit in to 3 fish and landed them all, and all well hooked, i think the braided line is hooking and ripping the hooks back out, the give in the mono gives the fish a chance to take and turn before the hook sets, i do use braided lines alot but on the new fish in they seem to be hard to keep on and im sure thats the problem. i dont have a problem with salmon hooking but they tend to take slower.

I've never used braid but have read of similar situations. According to information on the web one has to use a less stiff rod for braid to compensate for the non-stretch characteristics of braid. So if you like braid - get a 'softer' rod......

Very good video mate, experienced bouncing off small sea trout and grilse on my local river, then fished with a running treble on the rapalas made the differance and didnt have to stop using the braid, which as you know aids casting the smaller raps.BJa
