another good day out, ok i didnt catch anything, but when you have as many follows as i did then it doesn't matter. Luncheon meat failed to get me any bites after a couple of hours fishing at a local carp lake. There are a few rainbow trout and some perch in the lake, so i decided to put on my 7cm original in silver that i brought with me. I must have had 10 or more bites, and maybe 30+ follows on my lure from perch and carp, thats right, CARP! One carp of around 20lb, a big fat common, turned and swam right over to my lure in the margins, it looked at it for a while, but eventually swam off. I had another carp follow my lure in, and i spotted another one in the margins, but it spooked when i reeled my lure past it, and it didn't come back. Oh well, good fun nonetheless! ;D

i also caught some carps (but much smaller) on lures, it's not uncommon

its uncommon here, i've never caught a carp on a lure, and in fact, i've never even seen it done. However, i have seen a photo of a carp caught on a curly tailed shad in a magazine. However it's most likely because carp here are extremely hard to catch, everyone fishes for them, so they have become very wise in virtually every lake around. They are hard to catch even on carp baits, let alone lures! A catch of 1 carp in a day is good going, and 2 in a day is an excellent days fishing. Some people fish non stop for 3 or 4 days at a time and don't get a single bite, but they are usually after the monsters. Come to think of it, pike fishing isn't far off, my best day was a total of 7 pike between me and my dad, so pike aren't dumb i guess.

try with small white spinners and grubs, and you'll see that carps can be really bad guys... btw, the problem is that they usually hit when you're fishing with light tackle...
pikes can become quite smart, as most of the fishes. that's interesting, i'll have to think about it
